She told her over 540,000 followers:
“After much soul searching, I’ve decided that I will be easing into fewer performances while focusing on transitioning into the next stage of my career and life moving forward. The 82-year-old singer thanked all her fans for their support over the last three quarters of a century for making a little girl’s dream come true and following her every step of the way.

Criticisms of Knight's Recent Performances
Knight's decision comes after criticisms of her recent performances went viral, which may or may not have influenced her decision to step away.
Fans claimed the singer performances no longer live up to her high standards.
Some fans expressed concern after Knight’s July 25 show at the Hollywood Bowl, where they said she appeared disoriented while singing her classic “Midnight Train to Georgia” that she has sung over many years.
TMZ posted a video of the July 25 performance, which shows the singer standing still for a few seconds, staring at one of her background singers. With her back to the crowd, another background singer grabs her arm, but Knight swats her away.
Another source told the outlet that her April show in Las Vegas with Smokey Robinson was worse, alleging that Knight was showing symptoms of dementia.
William McDowell, Knight’s fourth husband, whom she married in 2001, spoke with TMZ and denied the dementia claim, but said he would make sure she sees a doctor. He is also her manager.
Last year, Knight’s son, Shanga Hankerson, accused McDowell of mental and financial abuse. He told PEOPLE magazine that his mother’s tour schedule is “detrimental” to her health.
Hankerson explained:
“I don’t want my mom out on tour on a tour bus, wondering where she’s at. I don’t want that for her. That’s my mom; I truly love her and don’t care about her ever working a second longer while she’s alive. The direction that she’s going in is pushing her to her departure, and I don’t want to see that.”
Knight's son has been deeply concerned about his mother. He filed a complaint with the Department of Human Services in Buncombe County, North Carolina, for an assessment of her health. He said the case is “ongoing.”
The seven-time Grammy winner slammed her son’s claims at the time, saying her “health and performances have been misrepresented.”
Gladys Knight's next show is scheduled for September 11 at the Taft Theatre in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Her fans don't know what Knight plans to do after that performance. However, she did say in her Instagram post on August 27 that she might see her fans again. She did not mention anything about health issues. Some of her fans commented that they have loved her over the years, but she should take a well-deserved break and not be concerned about performing again.
