So let’s start at the beginning. Ever since Cal-L dropped his first album Resplendence in mid-March of 2019 we’ve been able to notice that his electrifying sound is something very different than most other artist in this New Age hip-hop era. Instead of verses full of violence or drugs he’s taken a more “youthful” approach to the game painting us pictures of a heroes journey through the 21st century. He’s on many occasions stated that he, “intends to path his way to the top of the industry doing things his own way.” in Super-Hero fashion it seems, a way only the Superman of Entertainment can pull off. With his newest EP Outer-Space he does just that. Not only is it filled with golden nuggets of relatable knowledge it also gives us a feeling of hopping into a spaceship with Cal-L as he takes us on a journey through his universe.

The first song on this EP clearly sets the vibe immediately thrusting you into Outer-Space. It feels like you are warping through space and time along with Cal-L in his spaceship as he charismatically gives you a peak into his reality. It’s as if Captain Kirk where to be welcoming a new crew member onto the Starship Enterprise giving a quick “lay of the land” if you will.

The second track on this 3 song EP gives us the high tempo, feel good energy that we look for when we are simply in need of a smile. This song can be considered a paradox because he uses this track as a homage to Houston Texas, the one and only Space City that is known for its slow, chopped and screwed styled rap and this song is pretty much as upbeat as they come. Still, Houston is the place where Cal-L’s musics career first attracted major world-wide attention and has inspired him deeply so the shout-out is well warranted. He also adds in a remark about the film, Captain Marvel that is sure to drive any listener that somehow hasn’t seen the movie yet to invest two hours of their time into checking it out so they can make the connection.

The final song on the EP, Still Around is one of those songs you know came right from the heart, a true love ballad straight to the core we finally get a chance to hear Cal-L show off his r&b sound. It’s like he’s telling all his day one fans “Aye, yeah I’m out here snapping on tracks with crazy flows but my Al Green love side is still around.”. This song here ties up the project perfectly letting everyone know that he can pull a r&b hit out of his bag at anytime and then switch back over into a smooth flow. His ability to be versatile and show you his super confident careless side and then turn around and put his raw feelings into a track shows us all that this man is ready and willing to go the extra mile in this industry.

It’s 2020 now, the start of a whole new decade and you know what that means? It means this is a time for transition a time for new cycles, new faces, new sounds and new experiences. By the end of this decade there will be new people holding the reigns for the music and entertainment industry and someone that I know will be there at the top is Cal-L. He came into the decade with a huge statement with the single “Cogent” which means clear logical and convincing. He dropped the track at 11:59PM December 31st to make sure his core fans could step into the new year with 2020 clear vision with him. In this track here Cal-L is clear about his vision, logical about the path he’s taking to achieve his desires and convincing in the way he lets the world know he is here to dominate the entertainment industry creating his own unique path by consistently bringing new quality content to the world. He conveys this geniusly all while being honest and true to himself. Right after he released this track, he revealed via Instagram that he will be releasing a film centered around the Outer-Space EP in early 2020. This means he will verbatim share his 2020 vision with the world. Can someone say COGENT! Throughout the song he uses subtle world play and cleverly connects the dots with each verse showing the care he takes with every line. To the powers that be at Calvin Klein, it looks like you have a huge supporter with this Gentleman. Multi-million deal between Calvin Klein and Cal-L or should I say Calvin Laskey. That’s right, his full name is Calvin. No wonder he has a thing for CK products. Sounds like a power partnership right? I suppose we’ll see how that turns out later in this decade. This is a single that that has trailblazrd it’s way through the industry, it can be heard at; clubs, bars, cars and maybe even on mars.
