Introduction To Off The Wall Elvis Presley Related Stuff
I was shocked to get a Vocal Top Story for my Viva Elvis piece which you can sample below. I haven’t a clue why it was chosen but maybe somebody still appreciates Elvis Presley also known as The King.
This is nothing more than some fun things that the image of Elvis Presley has spawned over the years.
Jarrow Elvis
An Elvis impersonator in the Tyneside area who was not really up to the job for reasons I cannot tell your about here because they are not for the easily offended, but his abode was named “Disgraceland”.
For a gig I played with Spoon at the Tyneside Irish Centre I nipped to the changing room, shaved off my beard, donned a quiff wig and white nightgown and came out and sang “Hound Dog” . There is no evidence that this ever happened, and I am sure our fans will remember it.
Bubba Ho-Tep
This is a 2002 American comedy horror film written and directed by Don Coscarelli with Bruce Campbell as Elvis Presley—now a resident in a nursing home. The film also stars Ossie Davis as Jack, a black man who claims to be John F. Kennedy, explaining that he was patched up after the assassination, dyed black, and abandoned.
The film revolves around an ancient Egyptian mummy terrorizing a retirement home, Bubba Ho-Tep also deals with the deeper theme of ageing and growing old in a culture that only values the young.
You will know Bruce Campbell from the Sam Raimi “Evil Dead” and other films and he does a very passable Elvis impersonation. The film is available for free on Youtube if you look.
Dread Zeppelin
Led Zeppelin songs in a reggae style with 300-pound Vegas-era Elvis impersonator Tortelvis (Greg Tortell)., being a very creditable Elvis Presley. This is both funny and actually very good music and Led Zeppelin had flirted with cod reggae on D’Yer Maker form “Houses of the Holy” so Dead Zeppelin was not that alien a concept.
Elvana
A Newcastle band playing Nirvana songs fronted by an Elvis impersonator. An interesting concept and well presented, but a little limited and really someone had already trodden these paths more than successfully.
The King
James “The King” Brown is a very impressive Elvis impersonator. An ex-postman born in Belfast in 1968 he claimed that he was not an impersonator, but his voice sounds like Elvis.
I picked up a copy of his debut album “Gravelands” where all the songs covered were by artists who had passed on, keeping fairly close to the original arrangements but with The King singing. This is the song list with the deceased original singers.
1 Come As You Are - Kurt Cobain
2 Love Will Tear Us Apart - Ian Curtis
3 Song To The Siren - Tim Buckley
4 Whiskey In The Jar - Phil Lynott
5 I Heard It Through The Grapevine - Marvin Gaye
6 Blockbuster - Bryan Connoly
7 Sweet Home Alabama - Ronnie Van Zant
8 Working Class Hero - John Lennon
9 Something Else - Eddie Cochran
10 All Or Nothing - Steve Marriot
11 Twentieth Century Boy - Marc Bolan
12 Dock Of The Bay - Wilson Picket
13 Piece Of My Heart - Janis Joplin
14 No Woman No Cry - Bob Marley
15 Voodoo Chile - Jimi Hendrix
16 Whole Lotta Rosie - Bon Scott
17 New York New York - Frank Sinatra
18 That's Alright Mama - Elvis Presley
As you can see there is a huge range of popular styles and the King is at home with them all. He made several other albums but this is the one to get.
Agent Elvis - A Netflix Presentation
He’s Elvis Presley, the King of Rock and Roll by day, and Agent Elvis, a spy vigilante saving the world, by night.
Concluding This Alternative Elvis Dip
These are just a few things that came to mind and all are worth your time to investigate.
