The Final Two Minutes
Now available in print in Apocalyptales: The End is Nigh, a collection of stories of the apocalypse. *** Combat Commander Lou Dowds sat at his station, leafing through the pages of a worn paperback of On the Road. His love for Kerouacās subversiveness had always drawn suspicious gazes from his superiors in the straight-laced and stiff-backed United States Military.

Be Me, a Vocal+ MemberTop Story - September 2023
Wake up, brush teeth, look at the Vocal app. Oh, a red dot! Realize itās only creators Iāve subscribed to posting new stories. Bambi, a Life in the Woods
I am a fanatical fan when it comes to certain creations. A long time ago, convinced that Kathryn Lasky had finished her Guardians of GaāHoole series with Book 8, I could not accept that it was all over. Not that The Outcast would have been a bad ending to the series. In hindsight, I almost wish it had been the terminus, but I wonāt go there this time.

Dick Winchester in... The Fairy Tale
Book 1, Chapter 6 Little Red Riding Hood skips gaily through the forest, reveling in the sunshine. Unbeknownst to this innocent child, another figure shadows her in the undergrowth. As he slinks through the brush, a thorn bush catches on the edge of his cloak, momentarily exposing a rounded green square with the tops of the letters āUbā showing.

Moldy the Cold-Nosed Reindeer: My first-ever short story
Authorās Note: It took me a bit to determine what even counted as my first-ever piece of writing for this challenge. My writing journey stems all the way back into my childhood and had 2-3 starts and stops before I fully embraced my identity as a writer in high school. Even then, my writing goals, focus, and, most of all, style has changed a good deal since those fledgling days (thank goodness).

An Ode to my Inability to Accept Praise
Authorās Note: I originally intended to submit this for the Ode to the Ordinary challenge, but then I realized my thoughts would likely refuse to confine themselves to verses. Plus, by the time this topic came to me, there was about 10 hours left in the challenge, and while I certainly have āmade it happenā time and again when the chips were down, I prefer not to rush my writing.

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl has ruined the pirate genre for me
It was the first movie I remember seeing in theaters, and my admiration for its storytelling grows with age. It is the penultimate blend of action, wit, and mystery on the high seas.

The Acceptance, the Rejection, and the āF Youā: I Go Back and Catalog Years of Short Story Submission Responses
For reasons unknown, Iāve decided to continue alienating my readers by delivering something that is neither fiction nor poetry but, at the end of the day, is me riling myself up.
