Gluten Free Summer
When I think of Summer there are so many things that pop into my head. Warm, toasty sunrays hitting fair, freckled skin. The sound of laughter and splashing coming from the pool. Waves gently crashing against the golden sand. The drip of that single drop of perspiration sliding off an ice cold beverage cup. And yes, the scrape, rustle and cheerful chatter of people having their picnics and barbeques. It's such a joyous and bright time of year I don't always think of food right away and yet there it is, inherent in everything. The item all our social gatherings revolve around. An item that in fact many take for granted, but for those of us who are medically gluten free it's not always so easy.

Going Gluten Free
This would work best if I started at the beginning of my gluten free story. Almost 5 years ago I found out that I had to go gluten free out of necessity. It was rough at first. I wasn't trying to do all sorts of research on what I could or could not eat, and where to buy the different items. Our society loves to make fun of people who are gluten free and mock gluten free foods so I was going into the entire process feeling like it wasn't going to work. Then it came to actually eating gluten free. All the products I was buying from the store matched up with all the horror stories. They were too dry, too crumbly, or too dense. Many of them lacked flavor. Some tried to make up for the lack of flavor by adding too much salt. I was really sad to give up my yummy wheat, barley and rye based foods.

A Child's Joy
It was December of 2001 when a 15 year old girl, stuck at home with health problems, decided to take up crocheting. Up until that point she had tried knitting and sewing with no success, but failure wasn’t in her vocabulary. After picking up a book for teenagers about crochet basics she began to realize where her talent lie. The basics soon became too boring to hold any interest and so a search for stuffed animal patterns began. It was 2001, so the online options were slim. The craft stores and book stores didn’t seem to carry any animal patterns, crochet or knit. So came one of the most life changing moments of her life. The very first of her original design stuffed animal patterns was formed. A koala bear was born in her home in New Jersey.

Average Jane and the Environment
Saving money while saving the environment? Is that even possible? Just like you I’m not some billionaire. I don’t own a huge company. I have very little influence in the world. So the real question is, how do I, a small business owning, average, working class woman living off a limit budget help to save the environment? The answer: in so many small ways. On their own they don’t seem like much. Together they add up to a better world.

Fostering Maple Syrup
I had really enjoyed being a foster mom for the Animal Welfare Association in my area over the course of the past year. I had specialized mostly in bottle feed kittens up until December of 2012. It was so rewarding watching them grow up, helping them to become the great kittens who would find great homes. Then came December of 2012 followed by 2013. It wasn’t an easy year for fostering.

A Date With Merlot
Meghan headed out for her daily walk on a cool crisp day in October when she first saw him. The new man moving into her building was so handsome and distinguished, he took her breath away. His body was lithe and muscular without being too muscular. His hair was dark with just the right amount of white frosting the top of his head. His eyes were bluer than the sky on a good day, such as this one. He was definitely as delicious looking as a tall glass of fine wine.
