Sitting alone in a row of seats in an airport terminal, Nick surveyed his surroundings. The clouds must have momentarily parted, for the light from a tremendous window above him had begun to reflect off of immaculately polished slate tiles, obscuring his view of the strangers across from him. Not wanting to stare into the sun, Nick decided to relocate. As she sat on the bench in front of her apartment complex, idly wondering at the passers-by, she knew it must have crept well past 5, their agreed-upon time, but she’d sent him a text before she’d come outside to confirm that he still intended on picking her up, and had yet to receive a reply. She was hesitant to send the confirmation message, her finger wavering over the send button for longer than she’d like to admit before she made the move to press it; the guy that was presently occupying her mind seemed so casual about the whole arrangement that she’d not wanted to scare him away with any sense of urgency.

The Misunderstanding
Matt sat on a bench at the metro station, idly watching passengers disembark into the pouring rain. From the shelter of his covered seat, their reactions as they stepped out into the tempest made him smile; hoods that had been pulled down for the ride, lay draped, lifeless and sopping, only to be whipped again overhead with a sharp crack of fabric and spray of mist. The faces, bright with the anticipation of an arrival soon faltered to a grimace as they shrugged down their shoulders and joined the bustling throngs of travelers wandering in their intended directions.
