The Plush Lion
Mr. Lion sat slumped against the rail of the park bench where Caitlynn had left him. She ran with her friends and swung on the squeaky swings that hurt his ears. She didn’t bring him here as often as she used to, but he loved the park, even the squeaky swings. Watching her laugh and play brought him great joy. His great stuffing filled chest would feel warm seeing her happy and laughing. There was always that thought though, he wished he could play with her like they did.

New Year, Same Me, New Chances
I’ll be honest, I didn’t meet any of my Vocal or writing goals last year. Last year was at equal parts the worst and best of my life so far. I married the love of my life and battled a broken brain and in that, at least for the most part, I lost writing. It was always the “there will be time for that later” or “I’m too tired.” I’ve found it again and my lovely husband is full bore supportive. I want to be more active and creative this year and to that note, I will be attempting to submit at least one piece per month whether to a contest or just to the community.

Imagination is My Reality
For as long as I can remember I’ve told stories, fantastic tales of lands unknown. Before I could write for myself, I told them to my dolls and stuffed animals, especially a yellow and gold dragon, I so creatively named Firebreather. Like all children I hated chores, but when my focus was right or I had enough incentive, either to avoid getting in trouble or get an allowance, I happily raked leaves, vacuumed, and cleaned telling myself stories of princesses rescued and their white knights.

The Locket
Elizabeth flopped into bed with a satisfied sigh. It had taken months, but the once disaster of a cabin was livable, even cozy. Looking up at the picture of the couple that built it, she smiled. She had left some of their things around, not wanting to erase them completely. A bull riding trophy and buckles, the Clan Cochrane crest, and their picture.
