"All of Us Are Dead: Season 1" - STREAM IT OR SKIP IT?
There's so much content out there these days that it can be hard to find anything worth watching. I know that sounds backwards, but there are simply so many options that the true gems are hidden among the ranks of the mediocre, or even the outright bad. Besides, modern shows are designed with carefully planted cliffhangers so that once you get started, it's hard to walk away. Then you look up, and six hours have passed, and you realise that you didn't really enjoy any of it. It was distracting, and it got its hooks in you, but you kinda wish that you had those six hours back.

Athena's Curse
Imagine a pile of ancient coins: their edges are irregular, the details warn down by time. Every coin holds a tiny image. A lion's head means it came from Lydia. The coins bearing turtles came from Aegina, those with wolves are from Argos, and the pegasus marks the output of Corinth.

8 MORE Writing Lessons From SCREAM
Right around Halloween, I published 8 Writing Lessons from SCREAM, a story where I examined what writers could learn from the four movies in the franchise. Now Scream is back in theatres with a new instalment, and I keep seeing Ghostface wherever I go, so I decided that the time has come to fulfil a promise I made in that original story:

"Brazen" REVIEW
Is a little wish fulfilment always a bad thing? Doesn't part of the fun of superhero movies come from imagining that we could that kind of life? We see ourselves in Tony Stark or Spider-Man--not because we're actually like those people, but because it's fun to pretend that we're like those people. It's not realistic, but it's fun.

An Ode to R2D2
You remember the sequence from The Empire Strikes Back where the gang leaves the snow world? Most of the gang ends up trying to flee from the Empire, but Luke goes off on his own to meet up with a Jedi Master. Except, he doesn't really go alone, does he?

"Don't Look Up" REVIEW
If humans don't act fast, all life on earth will end. Sure, there's some "debate," but the debate is among people who aren't actually experts. Politicians are arguing, and entertainers are trying to spin it into entertainment, but the scientists? According to the scientists, the case is closed. There is a deadline on the horizon. Humans have the chance to spare themselves from certain doom, but there is no time to waste.

Is Vocal Worth It? A Retrospective
If you've been around the site for a while, you've probably seen some retrospectives discussing the experience of using Vocal. Jide Okonjo wrote a piece about what 4 years on Vocal (with 10,000,000 reads!) has been like. Leah Harris wrote another from after writing 50 posts. I really like these, because until Vocal introduces some kind of commenting or messaging feature, these are the only way for Vocal creators to check in with each other while remaining on the site. There are Vocal groups elsewhere on the internet, and you should check those out if you're interested, but if you want to see how Vocal creators feel on Vocal, retrospectives like that are the only way to do it.

A Last Will and Testament
When I first got diagnosed with cancer, I went to see a lawyer about my will, and what he told me has stuck with me ever since. I'd pitched him the idea for a properly interesting will--the sort of thing that could get a blurb on Wikipedia--but he wasn't impressed.
