'Terminator' (2019)
Synopsis When the United States activates an Internet-based Artificial Intelligence program, created by Cyberdyne Systems for cyber-security defense, it becomes self-aware. The AI program called 'Skynet' has one goal: To wipe out all humanity. The last surviving humans form a Resistance Force, which is led by John Connor. When they discover that Skynet has developed a way to time travel and tip the odds of the war, the leader decides to do the same! First, by sending a human volunteer from the Resistance back in time, John Connor hopes to ensure the survival of himself and the destruction of Skynet's creation. Every successful venture to the past only changes the timeline further and delays the inevitable. Eventually, Skynet gets activated and the world as we know it becomes a war zone between humans and the AI we created!

The Myth of Election Meddling
The trail of successful internet hacking, although not always the Russian kind, is pre-election 2016. The following example is only one of the many and goes back to 2012: The British hacker Gary McKinnon hacked the US Pentagon, but only because he was searching for evidence of UFO investigations. Most hackers with the skills would probably have given themselves a huge permanent paycheck! Instead, someone was recently busted because he manipulated McDonald's Monopoly game. Besides the big screen TV, he gave himself a lifetime supply of Big Mac's. To make matters worse, he was a police officer. I mean, our people have gotten pretty good at spotting hacking activity. It would be better if these guys hadn't been able to get through at all... UFO's and Big Mac's??

Little Rock City Park, New York
The 2018 Summer will be over in about two months. There is still plenty of fun to be had and some of it can come pretty cheap! Maybe you're still trying to enjoy this year’s record hot weather outdoors, instead of in a motel or hotel. You could be on the last few days driving home from vacation and would like to cut costs. If you're anything like me, you just need to get away from civilization for a little bit. Whichever it is, you need a financial break. I know a park just north of Allegany State Park that can offer you a break for free. I have gone there myself and it's pretty isolated, but don't go alone! It's rumored to be haunted, which is perfect for those who like a ghost hunt all year round!

Trump's Faux Pas
As Trump's Presidency has unfolded, I watched and continue to watch and read about the distress the divide his Presidency has deepened in America. Or as some say, 'Murica.' I have also read as quite a few of his voters lamented, during news interviews, about their choice to vote for him. Why would they? Just because of his promises about improving healthcare, his promises of beating job losses abroad, and they all became broken promises as their hometowns continue to suffer the tariff wars. Never mind that so many white American women have become too comfortable in smacking innocent teenage black boys at public swimming pools or calling the police when a black family is innocently barbecuing. For me, President Trump is like every kid who bullied me as a kid, who taunted me with racist slurs, the men who sexually harassed me later, and even still do today, and who feel a sense of entitlement that turns ugly at my rejection; they are all rolled up into one guy who has been voted into the President's office. Fortunately, the #MeToo movement has come a long way in such a short time. Ebony Magazine did an interview with Tarana Burke, who founded #MeToo for her movement in 2007 to reach sexual assault survivors in underprivileged communities. Since Alyssa Milano has brought a light to the catchphrase, now it's EVERYWHERE! All are survivors of sexual harassment and abuse. Otherwise, I never even would have heard of it, or its roots! Right on, to both women! Sadly, most people forgot who Donald Trump is.

The Hershey Chocolate Factory
In Pennsylvania lies a small town that was once home to the first nationally distributed confection during the early 1900s, Hershey's Chocolates. Back then the small town was known as Derry Township. After Milton S. Hershey moved there, he got into big business using his milk chocolate formula, and really started to establish himself by building many of the town's buildings. Especially important to him and his wife Catherine, since they couldn't have children of their own, was The Hershey Industrial School for Orphan Boys. Today, it has almost 2,000 students—boys and girls—under its financially self-sustained educational wings, which are funded by the Hershey Trust Company. It is called the Milton Hershey School.

Vampires in America
What is your favorite movie about Vampires? I was a '70s baby, so depending on your age, your answer may differ from my generation. Perhaps, like me, you're old enough to remember the release of 1979's Love at first bite with George Hamilton, or Jim Carrey in Once Bitten from 1985. Lauren Hutton acted as the leading blood-sucking seductress, and he was still a newbie actor. I have yet to see Bela Lugosi in the famous Nosferatu from the 1920's, I have to confess because it feels like a sin. But Gary Oldman and Winona Ryder in Dracula (above pic from 1992) is the ultimate in fantasy Vampire movies. Long before that movie was made, I had read the book written by Bram Stoker, and had loved it! For some, the first movie about these nocturnal creatures who crave the life force of blood to retain their supernatural powers and forever ceases the aging process, can't get better than the 'Twilight' Sagas. I watched the movies AFTER I read the books. I had started to write my own Vampire novella in 2005, so not only did I want to see how the author stood in comparison, but also just because I refuse to go along with trends. So, it was pretty embarrassing when I wound up in the theater, slinking down in my seat amongst screaming tweens for 'New Moon', the second movie of the Twilight saga!

How to Fight Dehydration
Last summer, I had a seizure. In my home, during the middle of the day, I stood up from my couch to wash dishes and dropped as I walked to my kitchen. My boys were present, and it scared all of us! Since the seizure had never occurred before, off I went to see a heart specialist. After a couple of newer tests, the diagnosis of Chronic Low-Blood Pressure, was a relief. But what exactly is it? This means that when I stand up, gravity causes more than the normal 15% of blood that a healthy person has drop, to pool below my heart. This extreme drop triggers my brain, which tells the heart to pump furiously in order to get my blood pressure regulated. The slight increase of my heart rate causes me to faint, or have a seizure, depending on how high my heart has to beat per minute. I have been struggling since I was at least 10 years old with bouts of dizziness, and fainting. I had always been a very active child, and in school the sudden fainting when I stood up from my desk didn’t seem important. They were isolated incidents and only struck every couple years or so, when I least expected it. When I was a teenager, they happened during my lunch hours from work, after I ate, but always when I stood up from a sitting position.

The MeerKAT Telescope
Earth now has the clearest images of the black hole at the center of our galaxy thanks to The MeerKAT Telescope, South Africa’s new super telescope! Originally the Karoo Array Telescope (KAT), the MeerKAT also gets its name from the small carnivorous animal that belongs to the Mongoose family populating South Africa. The observation project of galaxies, dark matter, and the cosmic web also has been gifted the name of the South African Mongoose family the Meerkat is part of: Project MHONGOOSE is a blend for MeerKAT HI Observations of Nearby Galactic Objects: Observing Southern Emitters. Whew! Scientists sure know how to shorten a mouthful, don’t they?

The Winter Forecast for 2018/19
It was very relieving to read that all 12 Thai boys, along with their soccer coach, were successfully rescued from their harrowing ordeal being trapped in a flooded cave! Even Elon Musk went to lend a mini-sub and help work out rescue plans. The Discovery Channel is planning a documentary on the rescue of all 13 people, OPERATION THAI CAVE RESCUE. The coach and 12 boys became trapped during an on-foot exploration of Tham Luang Cave in Northern Thailand after it flooded. They were lost for 10 days until they were located. Amazingly, all were still alive and successfully rescued! The only casualty was Thai NAVY Seal who perished while setting up oxygen tanks along a rescue tunnel. When the most experienced divers lose their life, you can see why it took several more days to initiate a successful rescue. Not all the boys could swim, but each of the 13 had two divers as escort. Not to mention a blessing from a famous Buddhist Monk. In groups of four, they had to swim underwater for two miles, in sometimes murky water. A water pump, and oxygen, had been set up. They were simultaneously pumping water out of the cave, and pumping oxygen in so the 'Lost Boys' could breathe. Just as the rescue ended, the rescue teams water pump failed. Thailand's Monsoon Season had just started, and the Monsoon waters they managed to keep at bay flooded back in.

'Lost in Space'
The Netflix reboot series Lost in Space hasn't received the best reviews. I have no idea why! I'm settling down to binge re-watch (yes, I am one of THOSE people!) what has become one of my favorite series. As I start the first season over, I am reminded why it blew me away upon its release in April 2018. I watched the original reruns of shows like Lost in Space, Green Acres, The Munsters, The Addams Family, Knight Rider, and The Love Boat growing up in the 1980s. Those were the best years of my childhood and I am always nostalgic for these shows! Even weekend morning cartoons were the best! Who else misses Bugs Bunny and the original Looney Tunes? You know you loved this one, too! Read on as I share my fondness for what is one of the better (remade) series that Netflix has for us...

Global Warming: We Have Only Been Dangerous to Ourselves
Our human activity is why the things we figured would take a million or so years to begin, are happening right now. It is cause and effect. Yes, I am talking about global warming. Human beings have kind of hurried along the natural process of global warming. We consume everything on our planet. Being at the top of the food chain has its drawbacks. We have littered every mountain and body of water we get into. We have ripped up the land to farm and mine, for nutrition and wealth. We leave tons upon tons of our human waste everywhere. Just think of angry monkeys locked in a cage. We even make some of our hills with poop!

Strange Sounds: 'Frost Quakes'
What is that strange sound outside? During the summer of 2009, myself and an old friend heard strange sounds at night in Niagara Falls, NY. At the time I was living in a small trailer park, with my two sons, practically across the street from the Niagara Falls Air Force Base. While my friend was visiting me, he took an evening walk. When he got back, he asked me to join him outside so I could listen to something. He didn’t say why but told me that I just had to hear what he was hearing. I stepped out, into the dark street with him, and we could hear a strange hum that was echoing all around. It sounded like electricity humming through strings of an electric guitar. It was off in the distance... somewhere from the north, I surmised. We stood there for a bit, looking up at the sky, wondering WTH?! The strange sound that night lasted for hours! There had been reports to the Niagara County Sheriff Department and had been heard a half hour away in Lockport. AND also made our two local newspapers’ front page the next day, but no source of the strange noise was found.
