A lunatic moon
Chapter 14 - Just a dream Monday, September 3rd, 1984. The next week went quickly. Everything seemed about going back to school. They had to get back to school clothes. They had to get new gym shoes. Kevin and Bobby and James all got their hair cut for back to school. Danny didn't want to and his parents didn't push it. Before they knew it they were back in school in homeroom getting their class schedules. They all hooked up with friends they hadn't seen since before summer and some that they had seen occasionally over the holidays. Some of Danny's friends wanted to know what he'd been doing for the past month. These were people that he used to go into town and hang out with on a regular basis until he'd found Mike's body. Rumours were already going around about him getting arrested. He figured it must be coming from Gord Bennett because his brothers had sworn to their parents not to talk to anyone about what Danny had been through. A lot of people that didn't know, were shocked when they heard about Mike Vansickle and Julie Gifford. In fact there was another local teenage girl who had gone missing way back in the middle of May, before school had let out, but they were just hearing about it now. She had never been found either. The cops thought she might have run away. She'd been having problems at home. Danny had other ideas about her disappearance.

A lunatic moon - Chapter 13 - The way back The day for taking Kevin and Carrie back the tracks and through the woods to where Jean Duhamel lived had arrived. They'd planned for this day, Friday August 24th because they were running out of time. There was only ten days left before they had to go back to school. Everyone was feeling the pinch and wanted to squeeze in as much summer fun as they could. They packed a light lunch and some water to make a day of it. Danny made them swear absolute secrecy for the mission, so they told their parents that they were just going for a hike in the woods to build a tree fort. They had a few forts scattered around Glen Thomas therefore it wasn't that out of the ordinary for them and didn't attract any undue attention.

Rats
Jim's woods Rats Ever since I was little, I've had pets. When I was six years old, my older brother had a pet guinea pig, he called 'Ogilvie'. A chubby orange, black and brown thing. Jealous, I asked if I could keep a pet too. I was granted permission, of the sort and allowed to select a couple goldfish. Of course as is my nature I picked out a couple of those big googly eyed goldfish. You know the kind that come bloated with tiny fins and big bulging eyes? I like things that are a little different from normal. So I gave them names, sure I did. Kids that age even name their stuffed animals. One I called Frankenstein, the other one Igor.

Chapter 12 - A new moon Sunday, August 19th, 1984 He woke up early, excited to go fishing. He dug a few worms out of the garden and grabbed his fishing rod and tackle box. He left a note for his brothers in case they wanted to join him and he started walking down to Prosser's pond. The sky was clear and the birds were busy singing and chirping. A couple of robins at opposite ends of town were singing their morning song, apparently in friendly competition with one another. It was one of those late summer days that were absolutely perfect. The sky itself held a day long promise of nothing but blue. Maybe, just maybe a few puffy shaped clouds in the afternoon for interest, in case you wanted to pretend they were in the shape of something funny, like a rabbit with long ears, or a mouse on a skateboard. Something goofy like that.

A lunatic moon - Chapter 9 Finding out Neither of them had much appetite after that. So they left together, sliding their trays into the rack and went to the common room where they sat and smoked in silence. Under the watchful sneers of Rich and Ronnie, who sat off in the corner by themselves.

Chapter 10 - Tests and results The following morning, all he could think about was that including today, he had two nights left before turning on the third night. The night of the full moon. It worried him, but not a whole lot. He figured that worse comes to worst, he'd kill a bunch of people that deserved to die. A cold thought maybe, but hey, what are you gonna do when you gotta werewolf curse riding your back like a ten ton baboon? He hoped for control and had been practicing hard. It was a weird feeling knowing you had certain abilities, but weren't sure what they were and just what exactly you were capable of.

Chapter 7 - Inside the PAC His trip to the Adolescent Psychiatric Assessment Center, otherwise just known as 'The PAC', was uneventful and quiet. Leaving Chris to finish up the paperwork, Constable Lucy McGowan had offered to drive Danny over to the facility herself, instead of sending him in the prisoner transfer van with its stainless steel floor and walls. She knew very well what happened too often in the prisoner transfer vans. The drivers got their jollies by starting and stopping the van suddenly, so that the prisoner with their hands cuffed behind them, would slide all up and down and around in the back of the van. Every acceleration, braking and tight turn would throw them into the steel floor, or wall face first with no way to break their fall. More than once the drivers had been forced to make a pitstop at the hospital for stitches before completing the transfer. Lucy herself had seen drivers laughing as they hosed blood out of the back of the van. Of course, it was always 'accidental'. However troubled he might be, the thought of Danny, flying face first into the unforgiving edge of a stainless steel bench at thirty miles an hour made her angry. She had met his parents and they loved him. Apparently the kid was at his wit's end with the loss of his friend and something had made him snap. Whatever he thought the old man, Mr. Duhamel was responsible for and whatever crimes Danny had perpetrated against him, well that didn't give the authorities, or anyone else a free pass to mistreat him. So she'd wrapped a thin blanket around his shoulders and bundled him into the back of her squad car. With his hands cuffed in front of him though. She was compassionate, not stupid. She'd just witnessed him pounding an old man's head into the dirt and seen his horribly shattered wrists held flopping and grinding in the air as Duhamel lay pleading for her help. She wasn't going to take any chances with this one. She rolled the window down to let in some of the fresh, early morning air. The sun was just beginning to rise and the inside of the cruiser felt stuffy and claustrophobic. She could smell faint traces of vomit on her uniform blouse.

Chapter One - Finding Mike The town of Glen George is a small rural community that boasted two churches, Glen George United church and then in the other direction, down Meadow's Road west, Lynnville Baptist church for the other folk. It had a small elementary school from kindergarten to a class of grades 3 and 4 combined. It also had a general store in the center of town at a three-way stop, with one of everything. It'd been run by the same proprietor for the past seventy years, Singe Ludlow. Although Ludlow's carried many different items, such as rubber boots, rat traps, giant balls of twine, poison smoke gopher bombs and a large rotating bin filled with screws, shiny spiral nails, and six inch spikes. The store was better known for its stock of bread, milk, cigarettes, cold soda, popsicles and candy for the village children, as well as the small Post office operating out of the far corner.

Chapter 6 - The Fight & Arrested! Danny stopped at the edge of the field. The ugly little house sat squat in the gloom. A single low-wattage bulb lit its warped porch. He could detect no movement and hoped that its single occupant was fast asleep at this hour. Does evil ever truly sleep? He wondered to himself.
