A Necromancer's Love Story
I had always dabbled in dark magic, always a curiosity within me. It was banned, of course, too many possibilities of absolute chaos. I hadn’t truly practiced until I met Ravyn. His dark curly hair, green eyes could pierce your soul. His smile was what hooked me though, plush lips that always stretched to the side like he was doing something he shouldn’t. I found later on that was usually the case.

Frost Springs
Snow drifted down, swirling in the cold wind. A never-ending blanket of white-coated the mountain town, but the residents were never bothered by its presence. Jnae moved steadily along the path, her feet sure. Even if she wasn’t confident of her ability to navigate the icy terrain, she wouldn’t fear injuring herself with a fall.

Sorcerer's Duel
The wind gently tossed my hair as I stepped through the lush grass, each blade bending against my bare feet as they struck the earth. It was finally here, the day of the Duel. I had initiated it, of course, but there was still a pit in my stomach. I had to decide if I was going to kill someone today.

The Shadow Grotto
I tap my fingers on my desk, as I wait for the website to load with last night’s winning lottery numbers. It’s like walking to check the mailbox when you aren’t expecting anything, but you go anyway just in case there’s something important waiting. I bought three tickets, but I didn’t watch last night’s news. I heard talk in the breakroom that someone won, so I thought I would pass some time by checking my numbers against the life-changing ones on the screen.

The Painting
My whole life I had one goal; finish the painting. I slaved away for years at a mediocre job, making mediocre money. Nothing brought me joy, not like the way it felt to paint. Holding various brushes of intricate shapes and sizes, the weight between my fingers. The sound the horsehair bristles made as they stroked across a rough canvas was like a symphony in my ears. Watching an idea unfold before my eyes to become something beautiful, something that wouldn’t exist had I not created it. That was bliss.

The Society
“Excuse me, Miss.” A woman taps Myla lightly on the shoulder. “Would you mind holding onto this for a few moments?” The woman wearing a lavender cloak with gold trim holds out a woven basket containing something wrapped in a pale cloth. “I’ll be right back,” she says with a kind smile.

The Tears Call
I had always been obsessed with mermaids. When I was a little girl I would imagine their tiny bodies swimming up from my bath drain to keep me company. I could practically see their glimmering scales, soft fins and flowing colorful hair. I would pretend to pick them up in my cupped hands and watch them swim in circles.

Why You Need to Keep Sharing Your Writing
Welcome, writers! I have to confess something to you. When I first started out, I was afraid to share my writing. I convinced myself that I didn’t need to blog or submit my stories. I could just quietly work on my writing and show no one until I had a perfect novel written. But I finally decided to submit one short story to a literary journal, and everything changed.

Missing Pieces
I stared at the sock sticking to the bottom of the washer and sighed. Looks like I’m going in after it. Being only 5’2’’ meant I had to hoist myself into the washer head first, waist bone digging into the edge of the machine and feet dangling inches above the floor. I stretched my arm, reaching for the sock. At the exact moment that my hand grasped the damp cotton, I felt a tug and I was falling.
