Black men take charge of your health today
If you are an African American male over age 50 reading this count yourself lucky and blessed. You have probably noticed a lot of friends and associates your age and younger are padding away. You probably are taking note that not all of them were hospitalized or in hospice. All too frequently men who seem healthy are here one day and gone the next . You don’t have to be in that number of those leaving this earth at an early age. Simple lifestyle choices can improve your chances of living longer. Studies continue to indicate that African American males have a higher mortality rate than other men so here are some things you can do to beak the odds.

Painful Integration Memories
In 1970 I was a 13 year old black teen heading to 8th grade. This was the first year of integration and I was apptehesive, The school bus picked me and the other children up and drove us across town. Previously I could walk to the elementary and junior high I had attended, but now I was forced to take the bus. This was new and exciting yet intimidating. I had no idea how this was going to turn out but soon reality kicked in.

Eating healthy benefits aging men
As men age, there are subtle changes within our bodies that we may not be aware of. This is why it is necesssry that we pay attention to what we eat. Proper Nutrition plays a larger role in our health than we may realize. Healthline reveals that aging is linked to a number of different changes in the male body, which include less stomach acid, muscle loss, and thinner skin. It’s easy to see changes in muscle mass and skin but you won’t realize your body is producing less stomach acid, until you have symptoms of indigestion or acid reflux. My wife recently asked if there were something in the water because so many people complained of acid indigestion. Now we know that decreasing stomach acid is normal for older adults.
