The Eye Of The Artist

And The Skill To "Draw" Us In

Top Story - June 2023
Original Artwork By Wynter Rhoads

This piece was created by my youngest daughter a few years ago. Wynter has been creating art, ever since she could hold a crayon. She has recently graduated from Herron School of Art, in Indianapolis and is preparing to move to NY for grad school. Everyday I am amazed at her skill and passion for expression. Using her pieces to create a story brings me unbelievable joy. Thank you for your time, in reading my work, but more for supporting a young, incredibly talented artist.

*

Getting lost by the edge of trickling stream,

all caught up in the spell of a magical dream.

Colors swirl and blend, like ripples to the shore,

close your eyes, disappear, that's what daydreams are for.

*

Flowers creep to the edge, to witness it's glory,

the breeze blows through the trees, telling a mystical story.

The water babbles and rolls, to a place still unknown,

where wildflowers and berries mixed together, all grow.

*

Moss grows on the rocks, like a fine fitted suit,

also grows on the trees, all the way to the roots.

Slippery, like the ice that forms, after the fall,

everything changes in life, after-all.

*

Falling asleep to the rippling sounds,

in a blanket of sunshine, and my thoughts, on the ground.

Drifting away, like watercolors, run on a canvas,

leaving behind the emotions, that have made me feel anxious.

*

The fragrance of flowers and damp - misty soil,

releases the imagination to completely uncoil.

Opening up every sense to the vision of the forest,

and mother nature's loving hand, the original florist.

*

She plays and she teases, with special allure,

keeping the adventure alive, prophetic and pure.

Opening the eyes of the ones who are willing to see,

on this grand adventure, provided to me.

******

Frogs, crickets and birds call this place home,

singing their songs of delight.

In the forest you'll find, you are rarely alone,

many creatures inhabit this site.

*

Bees, butterflies and dragonflies too,

flutter and buzz through the air.

The pallet created to present such a view,

very few things, can even compare.

*

The freedom that nature envelopes,

we, as humans, miss out on so much.

She reveals, with ease, relaxation and hope,

with her warm loving, elegant touch.

*

Her ability to touch without fingers,

and hug without arms to embrace.

The soft gentle way that she lingers,

as the wind blows the hair from your face.

*

Pulls you in, till you feel like family,

never letting you feel out of place.

Take the pieces broken and then, whimsically,

gives you courage to do what it takes.

*

She's a mother to those needing shelter,

a lover to those needing love.

She's a father to ones in need of a protector,

one's with wounds, handles, with her kid gloves.

*

She is everything you need, as you need it,

her ability to adapt, is insane.

Like a transformer, at the last minute,

delivering peace and calm, to your brain.

*

Seek the banks of her unending beauty,

use the grass as your own personal throne.

Let the fresh air entice you to get dirty,

make the wishes you cast, on a stone.

*

Fill her beds up with your hopes and desires,

tiny pebbles to mark out your path.

Fill your eyes and your soul, with her fire,

making memories you know, that will last.

*

Like the daises, lean into the sunshine,

still enjoying the place, you were placed.

Connected to her, with an invincible vine,

remembering every step, you have traced.

*

Drinking the cool, flowing drops of her rivulet,

bask by the artistic shores she provides.

In shades of purple, red, blue and wild violet,

all the beauty she so cleverly, has disguised.

*

Like oil vignetting on a canvas,

representing her attributes, at their best.

No, Dorothy, we're no longer in Kansas,

life's a masterpiece, and nature's the heart in its chest.

******

The artist (Wynter,) captured nature in all of her beauty,

reinforcing gentleness and respite.

Giving pause to escape current duties,

freeing us from impending waves of desperate.

Soft colors blended with hints of emotion,

Wynter draws the viewer into a level of calm.

Setting our imaginations in motion,

like a sonnet or uplifting psalm.

Really enjoyed this! The painting is magnificent too! My sis went to Herron, and my own daughter has done some work for a couple fo my stories, most notably her cute anime vampire couple for "This Moment". Well-wrought! Write on!

"Her ability to touch without fingers, and hug without arms to embrace." You both are so very, very talented and that is a gift from God. So impressed, Kelli & Winter!!

Your poetry evokes not only the pleasing sights and sounds at the mossy banks of the brook, but also the loving touch of the brush splashed with paint in your daughter's hand. Lovely poetry and an even greater tribute to your love and pride in your daughter. Your daughter's painting reminds me of Odilon Redon's Ophelia Among the Flowers which I first encountered as I happily wandered the rooms and halls of London's National Gallery. I love how she captured the fragility of the blooms in this work. I love hand prepared art. I think it is wonderful that you leverage your daughter's lovely work for inspiration in your writing. Congratulations on Top Story. Very well deserved.
