As an traditional artist, paint brushes are essential, especially for medians such as acrylic paints and glazes. While having the right brush is important for any piece, it is important to know what kind of brush works for you. The brushes that I will be going over today are the Craftsmart Brushes: Golden Taklon Ultra Fine 15 piece set and the Cratftsmart Assorted All-purpose Brush set with both Golden Taklon and White taklon brushes 50 piece set. Both sets are $9.99 from Micheal's and they come out to $10.81 if bought separately (This is in Texas where we have no sales tax). Now onto the more detailed bit.

The 15 piece brush set comes with 2 liners, 2 script liners, 7 round brushes, and 4 flat brushes. There are other styles, sizes, and other hair types available on their website but these will work just fine if you're just starting out with smaller pieces or if you are an experienced artist and want to add a more stylistic character to your line art. These brushes are smaller but still have a comfortable base that sits in your hand like you're holding a Bic ballpoint pen. In terms of brush care, these brushes can be used with oils, tempera, acrylics, and watercolors so their brush care differs with each median. For an oil paint median, the oils need to be cleaned from the brush with an odorless non-solvent brush cleaner, removing as much color as possible. After the colors are gone as much as possible, wash thoroughly in soap and water and reshape with your fingers. For the Tempera, Acrylic, and Watercolors, simply wash thoroughly in soap and water. Then remove as much color as possible and then reshape the brush with your fingers.

Now the fifty piece brush set comes with two kinds of paint brushes, a White Taklon and a Golden Taklon. Each kind of brush set has 25 pieces in it. The White Taklon set comes with eight round brushes of varying sizes and eight angular brushes of different sizes. The Golden Taklon set is similar except there are nine round brushes, eight flat brushes, and eight angular brushes. The White Taklon brushes are bigger or at least tend to be bigger than the Golden Taklon brushes but ultimately just make it to where there is a duplicate of almost brush and brush type. Washing them requires the same processes as the 15 piece brush set. Each brush has a number on them, indicating the size of the brush. They are longer than the other set of brushes and are something that is great for beginner pieces or simply just a additional piece to their repitior. The brushes fit in your hand but they can get uncomfortable if you hold them too firmly.

Over all these are decent brushes. They aren't expensive and even though everything is bare bones and simple, but sometimes that's all that you need. The amount that people always spend on art supplies when they start has always been beastly, it's nice to see that there are still some brands that are affordable and decent quality.
