The Best Free 3d modeling programs and business ideas.

Hello and welcome to my little corner of the net. I recently needed a 3d modeling program to make a few things for the home that I was unable to find at any store. A friend has a small 3d printer and offered to make it for me if I paid for the filament and I had the design. He let me skate on the labor portion which helped tremendously.

I found a few that were totally free. Remind you not free to try like most software today but FREE. One was a website called Tinkercad. Another was an actual software program or application as most refer to them today. The software is from Designspark Mechanical.

Designspark Mechanical is a wonderful program. It has a lot of features like the other cad programs and some unique features. You can work the program like the old "what you see is what you get" website editors. It has simple ways to pull or push sides, faces, and edges. You can cut holes where you need them super simple. It is a wonderful program.

I have used it before for simple projects at work and it makes for a wonderful companion. Especially if you do not want to take the time to learn a whole new program.

You tube has a lot of instructional videos for the program. The authors have a whole series available on the webpage too. If you missed the download link, simply click on the links in the second or third paragraphs.

Keep in mind there are a few other programs out in the world that work and allow you to save off the .stl file type you need for your 3d print file. I have found Freecad , Blender, and one from the application store on windows (3D Builder). These are a few more that are free. They are a little more involved to use but are all great programs.

I have read a lot of articles lately that 3D printing is taking the world by storm. It will help the environment as well as the everyday consumer. Just think if you could buy a file from the internet and download it straight to a 3D printer and in the time, it takes to print you have that new tool or part for your washer.

3D printing has also been looked at to solve the housing problems of our worlds homeless. They have printer's that can print full scale homes. They use concrete in some. Some have a mix of earth and other components to make the projects even more economical.

The idea has been posed we could use 3D printed homes on the Moon and Mars. It would use raw materials found on the surface to create livable homes for future colonies.

I know this was just a teaser for the programs, but someone starting out in the 3D printing world will have some resources to start out with. The extra information was found on the open web. You tube has a lot of videos with the 3D printed houses and the use of the printers in space.

I hope this has helped you locate a great program for your 3D modeling needs. Should you need more or like this article please contribute to my author page and leave a comment for other topics you would enjoy hearing more about.

Even though 3d printing is still just getting around to the rest of the public it has been around since 1987. It has so many applications and those are just now being explored. The medical field has been able to rapid prototype various tools and health devices. Engineers are using a type of printer to help the homeless in cities across the world. This is all great things for all of humanity.

On a lighter note, the average joe can now produce things from his or her own home. If you put together a printer farm you could possibly make a living from 3d printing. You would need a product that sells well and something that you have designed to get the most profit for the item. Finding that product may be a chore, but a few have managed to do it this way.

There are various business models though and most depend on your skills and your target clients. Some people find it easier to work prototyping. You would design a product for a client then print it out. Depending on design time and materials used it could be made into a productive business.

For those who are on the low side of design but have a knack at using the 3d printing you can choose to print files for other people. You are basically renting time on your printer plus add the cost of materials and your labor and shipping cost. This works out great for online marketplaces or even local flea markets and stuff.

All in all, it may take time to be mainstream, but a lot of companies are looking into print on demand kiosks for the stores that you would simply browse the catalog and choose your item. The printer would print it on demand at the time you order it, and you would take it home. The company has no stock to inventory except for the raw materials that the printer would use. It would be a great business model if perfected.

Some designers simply create the 3d print files and sell the file so that you can print from home or outsource to a printing farm of your choice. This is a great business to be in because once you make the file it makes money for you without the cost of materials or even time involved for you. Depending on the quality of the product and the popularity of it this could be a gold mine.
