Hey, I'm new to Windows 10 and can't figure out how to get the apps on my computer.

The start menu in Windows 10 has a lot of space for more features to be added. It's always been this way, even back with Windows XP. People love these features because it makes the computer more convenient to use. The new version of Windows 10 takes this shortcut concept one step further with the introduction of "live tiles" on the start screen — apps that can display their data right there in the start menu itself.

These live tiles are great for users who want a quick overview of some data, like emails and calendar events. For example, clicking an email tile opens up your inbox, click on an event tile and it shows you a calendar of that event. However, for us programmers who design apps (and I'm guessing you are one) it is much less convenient when we have to manage all that data separately from our app code and worry about crashing or resetting tiles manually if they're not updated often enough or if some change occurs that needs attention by code (like switching primary email address or closing the app).

There is no good way to do automation through code on the tile itself!

The start menu

If you've upgraded to Windows 10, you probably noticed that the Start menu is back. But where are the apps? The good news is that they're not gone. They're just hidden in a folder on the Start menu. To access them, click on the Start button and then click on All Apps at the bottom-left corner of the screen.

This will open a list of all your installed apps in alphabetical order (see screenshot below). You'll notice that there is no search bar or jump list like there was in Windows 7/8 — this is due to Microsoft's Metro design principles which didn't allow for such features since they were considered "too complex" or "not touch friendly." You can also access this list by pressing Windows Key + Q on your keyboard or clicking on All Apps at the bottom-right corner of your screen when using tablet mode.

The search bar

Windows 10 is a very popular operating system. It's easy to use, has great features and is also free to download. The downside is that it comes with a lot of bloatware as well. These apps can be great for some people but others may not like them.

The apps list

Windows 10 includes an Apps list that you can use to manage your apps. To open it, press the Windows key + I. The Apps list is a menu from which you can quickly launch any app on your PC. It's also where you'll find all of your installed apps and games, which makes it easy to find what you're looking for without having to search through every single folder on your PC.

To open the Apps list, press the Windows key + I. You can also right-click on the taskbar and select Show Windows Explorer from the context menu (or press Win+E).

Your desktop

Windows 10 is a big operating system. It's got a lot of features and a lot of settings, which means there are a lot of places to look when you're trying to find something. If you're wondering where to find an app in Windows 10, it's pretty simple: First, open the Start menu by clicking the Windows button in the bottom-left corner of your screen.

Then click All apps in the left-hand menu. This will show all installed apps in alphabetical order. If you want to find an app by name or its icon rather than scrolling through the list, you can use search. Just type what you're looking for into the search box on the taskbar at the bottom of your screen and then press Enter or click (when Google Chrome pops up).

In a nutshell

Different devices that use the Windows 10 operating system have various options for installing apps. You can install them from the Windows Store, or you can download and install them from a location other than the store. There are lots of good apps available for Windows 10 devices, but depending on the Windows 10 device you're using, you may have to either install an app from the Microsoft Store or download and install apps from somewhere else.
