We all have a unique attachment to our homes, but the internet of things (IoT) is just about to strengthen this attachment. Tech futurists argue that in the next couple of years, most homes in the developed world will be technologically connected with the IoT devices. This should be believable particularly because of how we have seen this new technology revolutionize other industries including healthcare, transport, entertainment, and education.

In order to maximize on the enormous benefits that IoT is bringing to the world, the real estate industry is quickly realigning its priorities, and embracing more tech-empowered homes. As a matter of fact, there currently are more smart home devices than there are phones, and even so, most smartphone users are connecting their phones with their smart home devices in order to enjoy a complete loop of connectivity between their phones and their homes. As such, we can anticipate these three revolutionary changes to occur in our homes within the next two years, and become something to consider before buying a house.

1. Increased Energy Efficiency and Environmental Conservation

Artificial intelligence is already deep-rooted in the construction industry world over, and this trend will only intensify in the future. Machine-controlled equipment is helping contractors to finish projects faster and more efficiently, consequently saving on money and energy. AI replacing manually-run construction machines also means a reduction in fuel emissions, and other environmental pollutants, such as noise.

Anyone operating a construction company will tell you that the integration of IoT in homes will have an even greater impact on energy consumption than on anything else. First, the technology has the ability to regulate the heating and cooling systems in a home, consequently reducing the household energy bills. You will agree that sometimes, people overuse energy in the home out of lack of proper energy control mechanisms.

A great example of energy and water consumption is the house irrigation system. The new age of "smart" systems has changed the way we water the plants. The key to this brilliant framework is the controller. They do check the climate, and utilize the sprinkling system based on time, weather, and humidity, according toBlue Jay Irrigation.

With a reduction in household energy consumption, the world will witness a significant reduction in overall energy consumption. This is because almost half of the electricity used in the US on a daily basis is within households.

2. Personalizing Household Activities and Helping Out with Some of Them

If you own a construction company, then you've probably used artificial intelligence to map out a client’s home, either during first-time constructions, or during the renovation. You must have seen how efficient it can be to work without having to do the tough jobs. Now, if that efficacy can be incorporated into our homes, then homes would be fun to live in.

Also think of shopping, probably fashion products; and remember how artificial intelligence is revolutionizing shopping. Robots are able to read your shopping history, and suggest for you the available products that you would like. Now think of how your home would change for the better if you had that same shopping technology keeping records for you, and advising you whenever the need arises. It would be magical, right?

Well, by 2021, tech futurists predict that our smart home devices will be able to communicate with each other, and with homeowners in order to give the homeowners’ a better living experience. It will regulate indoor temperature, establish cleaning patterns, and suggest which chores a homeowner should do, and at what time. IoT will make daily chores easy to keep track of and easy to execute.

3. Home Safety and Security

IoT will make it possible for homeowners to keep their homes safe from intruders, while at the same time giving access to visitors without necessarily being at home. A smart doorknob, for example, can be connected to a surveillance camera, and then to a smartphone such that when someone approaches the front door, the homeowner is notified on his or her smartphone. If it is a welcomed visitor, probably a relative or a doctor, the homeowner can allow him/her to access the home from the connected smartphone regardless of how far he/she could be.

In terms of home safety, it is now easy to monitor kids or senior citizens when you leave them at home. You can connect your phone, for example, with a smartwatch tied on the wrist of a senior citizen, so that you can be notified when she/he takes meals, or if she’s under medication when she takes her medicine. The same watch can tell you if your old parent has fallen and needs help to get back up. All these are positive that we can pick from IoT integration in our homes.
