ECOWAS TO ATTACK NIGER AT ANY MOMENT

NIGER'S ATTACK EMINENT

The ECOWAS Chief of Staff has taken the important decision to proceed with military intervention in Niger. When this meeting was postponed, there was initially speculation that he was being evaluated on the mood of ECOWAS residents. However, despite objections from various sides, including the African Union, the ECOWAS parliament, the Nigerian parliament, the Ghanaian parliament, and Nigerians living on the Niger border, the ECOWAS chief of staff continued to mobilize in preparation for a counterterrorism intervention. I am doing my best. Niger.

The decision follows a second call to Tinub by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken after the military coup in Niger. During the call, Blinken asked Tinub to expedite the release of Niger's former president Bazoom, who was overthrown by the military. He also called for a speedy return to democracy in Niger. This raises the question whether this is a clever way of signaling Tinub to take action in Niger, potentially leading to the withdrawal of troops and the return of Bazoom. There is also the implication that the United States, which maintains military bases in Niger, should consider this issue rather than engage in ECOWAS.

Many voices in the region have expressed serious concerns about military intervention by ECOWAS. Apart from the fact that ECOWAS leaders do not have explicit powers to invade other sovereign states, the notion of countering illegality with more illegality is met with skepticism. Many of these leaders carry a moral burden due to their constitutional violations in their respective countries, which undermines their credibility as advocates for democracy elsewhere.

Also noteworthy are complaints against France from French-speaking countries. Many have become disillusioned with what they see as French domineering, especially in the case of Nigeria being forced to deposit 50 percent of its foreign exchange reserves in French accounts. This economic squeeze ignited a desire for autonomy and led to a revolutionary perception of the coup d'état against France. Addressing domestic security crises is a priority, so the calls to focus on domestic challenges before intervening in other countries are well received.

Western claims to pressure Nigeria's military junta to restore Bazoom are seen as self-interest rather than genuine democratic concerns. The fact that the Nigerien people are supporting a military government and a coup to free themselves from French influence raises questions about the intentions of the West. Western reactions to many coups attempt in African countries have highlighted the suspicion that Western engagement is motivated by resource extraction rather than democratic values.

Finally, the essay emphasizes the need to let Nigerians decide their own destinies, recognizing that intervention can lead to civil resistance and a humanitarian catastrophe. Calls for Niger to choose its own path are consistent with the principles of democracy and national self-determination. The article calls on Western powers to end pressure and interference to allow Niger to decide its own course. The current situation, characterized by economic sanctions and political instability, poses major challenges for Niger's future.

How could Africa be so much deoendent on foreign aid and yet say they are into democracy? there are many African presidents who has been in power for over 15 years and nothing has been done about it. Yet they are part of the ECOWAS (Economic Community of West African States) fighting against people has they thought has tampered with democracy. How can the problems of Africa beloved when our very leaders are part of the ones that have created the problem for many years and still continue to add the problems. We are in a sad state, where in those we entrusted with all the powers to protect us are now against us.
