Just a couple of days to go on my latest challenge, so here is a helping hand, if you need it!

As you will surely not be aware, because I suck at pushing these things, I have a dollar challenge going at the moment. It closes on 30th June. It's only a couple of days, but keep in mind you can do a micro, a drabble, or a poem - it doesn't have to be War and Peace.

If you like, you can find the details here:

TL;DR - Use a quote from another Vocal user as a prompt for your own story.

Important: You have to credit them, of course, and you have to tip them.

There are people active here who aren't V+ members, so they won't be able to give or receive tips. As a workaround, I humbly (ha, not really) offer a selection of quotes from some of my scribbles that you can use without giving a tip. These are listed at the bottom for you.

The Problem

There are so many amazing writers on here. So many wonderful pieces to choose from. Each with many strong lines that are a catalyst for even the sluggishest (shhh it's a word now) of imaginations.

We are spoiled for choice!

For that reason, I include a selection (by no means exhaustive) of some of my recent favourites.

In no particular order:

Your blackened attire, your smothering arms

- Sasha Desideri

From:

+

It was never easy walking through another's dreams

- Paul Stewart

From:

+

No form of any god was coming to my rescue today.

- Novel Allen

From:

+

I had been born without legs. I could not walk, though I yearned to desperately.

- Veva Jacques

From:

+

She was pulled in and got lost, forgetting to eat, drink, or sleep.

From:

+

What if apples were blue--a really beautiful blue.

- Gerard DiLeo

From:

+

A long time ago, a giant boat spilled tons of magical pink sugar and secret chemicals right into the ocean.

- Sara Wilson

From:

+

Where is the giant?

Where is his head?

- Raymond G Taylor

From:

+

Whether I am ready or not,

thick skin demands that I stand as queen.

- Caitlin Charlton

From:

+

And some from me:

Here are some of mine - these are ones you don't have to tip for, unless you especially want to:

It's shrinking my little love, this window we have together

From Of Steak & Sunlight

+

Fear was a stranger to her, b ut she rought him with her just the same

From The Future Tree

Key things to remember:

  • ALWAYS credit
  • TIP the person (unless you are choosing one of mine - as host, I don't want to ask for tips)
  • The quote can be included, in which case it should feel like it belongs. Or your story can be inspired by it.
  • You don't have to read the full piece before you write yours (but do read it after!)

Are you feeling inspired?

If you've read (or written) an especially juicy line lately, please share in the comments!

Thank you for reading, and (hopefully) for writing!
