Unofficial Vocal Challenge Observations

Introduction

Most unofficial challenges, especially from Vocal favourites, are often rewarded with Top Stories, which is beneficial to the creators and others who want something other than the official challenges to take part in.

The Vocal Challenges are fine prompts, but it's usually the same people who place, and for a lot of us, they are just prompts.

The Observations

For a couple of years, I have done a monthly themed challenge, and over the month they get a good number of responses, but because they use a standard format, they are not chosen as Top stories, and because the responses are spread over the month, they will not make the Leaderboard.

This is the current one that closed on the night of Monday, 31st of August:

However, the cover of a Graham Parker album that I used for a flash challenge finishing tonight resulted in a remarkable number of responses, apparently putting it on the Leaderboard (I seldom check it out because I am not a popular creator with Vocal). So it appears unusual challenges can get noticed.

This was unusual in that it ran for a week, got a lot of responses and even a Top Story

Conclusion

I will continue doing the monthly challenges (September's drops on the first of September), but maybe I will drop the odd flash challenge.

I always finish the challenges by awarding five random entries with a dollar and listing them at the end of the challenge. I don't like rating creators against each other because you are all excellent.
