What's on the Other Side?
I thought I closed out 2023 with a villanelle about writing with the Vocal community. Then I thought, why not write some thoughts about going forward on Vocal in 2024? So I did that. Then, Vocal posted a challenge about doing what I had just done. So, here I am, getting ready to do that stuff again. And I'm okay with it. I hope you will be, too and I promise to add some new, hopefully interesting, stuff.

One day, a peculiar book appeared on the dusty shelves, its cover adorned with mysterious symbols and an ethereal glow. Curiosity spread through Eldridge like wildfire, drawing in locals and strangers alike. The book, titled "The Enchanted Odyssey," whispered promises of adventures beyond imagination. It became an enigma, passed from hand to hand, its pages revealing personalized tales for each reader. As the town delved into the stories, an inexplicable connection emerged among the readers. People began experiencing fragments of their book's narrative in their daily lives. If one read about a pirate's quest, they might find a weathered map leading to hidden treasures. A love story could spark newfound romances, and tales of bravery might inspire heroic deeds. Amelia, a young artist with dreams bigger than the town itself, stumbled upon the mystical book during a routine visit to Whimsical Pages. Intrigued, she took it home, hoping to find inspiration for her next masterpiece. Little did she know, the book held more than just stories; it held the power to intertwine fiction with reality. 2024 for Autistic Acceptance.
Being autistic is fundamental to who I am. It’s part of why I don’t use terminology like person with autism, because it’s not a part of me that can be pulled from me. Not even just mentally, but physically as well. My body doesn’t move like everyone else, and my brain isn’t wired like them either. I’m clumsy, walk like a duck and often move in an almost Frankenstein’s monster sort of way. Taking autism from me would make me a completely different person entirely. So why wouldn’t it be rooted in my works? Even in my fictional stories, I like to imagine at least one of my characters being neurodivergent. Write what you know, is what I’ve heard time and time again. I like to combine what I know along with the unknown, things strange and unusual. My experiences combined with the supernatural or even just daily life. I want to continue to embroider bits of my autistic identity into each written work I create.

Prayer for the French Republic
"Prayer for the French Republic" is a moving- thought provoking play by Joshua Harmon (Bad Jews). The plays premise is how safe a Jewish family is in modern day France. Harmon through his characters gives us a history lesson about how Jews have been slaughtered throughout time and what the reason is behind man's inhumanity toward men. Directed by Davis Cromer, this three hour plays moves quickly and never lets you out of the action on stage; we stay transfixed and focused in this heartfelt play.
