Stop Waiting For A Publisher To Find You
Take Control of Your Writing Career
You wrote a book or are in the process of writing a book.
Well, you want people to know about your book so you're making short videos, taking aesthetic photos of the cover, and posting them anywhere and everywhere on the internet. You've seen other writers do the same and suddenly they're posting about their million-dollar publishing deals from top publishers… so it can happen to you - right?
Well, you keep writing and posting and sharing and commenting, but time passes and nothing happens.
What you're doing is basically throwing things at the wall and hoping they stick.
If you want real results, you need to take control of your publishing journey, and here's how.
Explore the Querying Process
If you want your book to be traditionally published you can't just sit around and wait for the publishers to discover your TikTok page.
Sure there is a one-in-million chance that an agent or publisher is going to want to represent your book due to a viral post of yours, but why sit around and wait for this when you can work towards it instead?
Take a day off from doing those dances with your book and instead write up your query letter, synopsis, and everything else required and begin the process of reaching out to literary agents or publishers to represent your work.
It's a process that is time-consuming, and while the chances of monumental success aren't high - they're still higher than waiting for that one viral TikTok.
Embrace Self-Publishing
Self-publishing your book does not mean in any way that you have failed as a writer or as an author.
Self-publishing is simply another option to explore that more authors are choosing over the traditional route each day.
Those who self-publish retain more control of their works and their final product, pricing, and royalties.
Just like traditional publishing it requires you to be dedicated to putting yourself out there. Instead of sending out queries, you're going to be marketing your book, the same as when you were trying to catch the eye of a publisher except now you're trying to catch readers.
Build Your Platform
Regardless of which publication route you choose, you're going to want to build a strong authors' platform.
You want your online presence to be more than a place to market your book, you want it to be a community of readers and writers alike.
Like all things, it will take time, consistency, and dedication.
But one day you'll see that it has been absolutely worthwhile.
Best of luck.
