    Much has been written about time management in the last few years that I've been studying it. From the classic "Getting Things" Done By David Allen to newer works by Cal Newport and too many others to mention here,(Most of which I've forgotten and don't want to look up now.) So the topic of Time Management/Project Management has been rehashed into various structures and ideas, most of all boiling down to essentially the items you mentioned. For myself, I use a combination of Google Calendar and a paper planner. Every week I take anything from the google calendar, that is directly related to me, and put it in my Planner. As I have all of the daily pages numbered and dated for the entire quarter of the book, Oftentimes, I'll go in and put stuff on that particular daily page ahead of time. Taskwise; I have what I call my SSDD list, Same Stuff Different Day, Which is essentially the 5-to 6 things I have to do a a daily basis, anything extra is gravy as far as work getting done. There are days for various health reasons or other reasons, I'd doing good to just this done. I go in and put the SSDD task in the daily pages for the week every week, so I have them there, and all have to do is red-check them as I've done them. I try to do a loose time blocking system which is very flexible depending on what happening on a given day. I've also many times, done a task and later went in and wrote it down, and checked it off. I also usually keep a daily log of big events for the day, and generally what happens including visitors, weather, and the like. .
