FROM PAIN TO POWER. NO FATE UNCHALLENGED.
How Lyon Gaber Built the Lyonheart Universe — Without Waiting for Hollywood's Permission.

There’s something strange about creating your own world. At first, it exists nowhere except inside your head. You can see the characters. You can hear them arguing. You know what they want and what they’re afraid of. But nobody else can see any of it.
You can explain your vision a hundred different ways. At some point, though, you have to stop explaining. You have to make the damn thing.
That’s where Lyonheart Universe began for me. Not with a studio deal or a production company handing me a budget. I wanted to tell a story, so I started building one.
The Man on the Other Side
At the center of Lyonheart Universe are two versions of the same man: Leon and Dark Lyon. One is trying to understand himself. The other has a very different opinion about how he should survive the world.
It’s easy to look at Dark Lyon and assume he’s the villain. He wears dark clothes, he’s intimidating, and he doesn’t believe in solving every problem with a friendly conversation. But I never wanted him to be that simple. Dark Lyon challenges the things Leon is afraid to confront. Sometimes he does it in ways that are uncomfortable, even dangerous. He believes fear gives the wrong people too much power.
That raises a question I find more interesting than the usual good-versus-evil story: What happens when the part of you that’s trying to protect you becomes the part you can no longer control? I didn’t want to give the audience an easy answer. I’m still exploring that question myself.
Making Something When You Don’t Have Everything
Independent filmmaking teaches you something quickly. An idea doesn’t care about your budget. You might imagine a scene with a particular atmosphere or location, then reality shows up and you have to figure out what you can actually do. Sometimes that means changing the shot. Sometimes it means spending far too long on a few seconds of footage because you know something isn’t working yet.
I’ve had moments where the version of a scene in my head was much better than the version on my screen. That’s a terrible feeling, but it’s part of the job. You go back and ask what’s missing—maybe the performance, the edit, the music, or the scene itself. There’s nobody else to blame when a decision doesn’t work, and nobody else who can make that decision for you.
The Craft Behind the Illusion
Cinema has always relied on illusion. Long before digital effects, filmmakers used camera tricks, practical effects, and editing to make audiences believe in something that wasn’t literally happening in front of the camera. That tradition evolved.
In Lyonheart Universe, I occasionally and carefully use computer-generated cinematic effects to create visual elements that would otherwise be difficult within an independent budget. These are part of a broader process that includes hands-on editing, color grading, and visual effects in DaVinci Resolve.
One sequence in POWER DEMON2TRATION shows what I mean. Leon finds himself standing alone in Times Square. Then the place fills with people. We didn’t film that moment in Times Square. We shot it inside a studio using a green screen and a moving abstract background. I had to perform as though I were really standing there, reacting to a world that wasn’t physically present. Our director of photography and her assistants played an important role. Later, in DaVinci Resolve, I composited myself into the environment. This was practical studio work with a small crew.
The audience sees Leon in Times Square. What they don’t see is the studio, the green screen, or the hours of work behind the finished image. Those effects don’t write the characters or decide whether a performance feels right. Those decisions are mine. The question has always been the same: Does this serve the story? If it doesn’t, it doesn’t belong.
Why I Kept Going
There were easier ways to spend my time. I could have waited for the right opportunity or more resources. But the story wasn’t going to leave me alone, so I kept working. The first season became two episodes: F1RST BANG and POWER DEMON2TRATION. They’re the beginning of something I’ve been trying to bring into existence for a long time.
When the episodes were finally available, it was a strange feeling. For so long the whole thing had lived inside my head. Now somebody I’d never met could press play and experience it. They might love it, hate it, or misunderstand it. That’s the deal you make when you put something into the world.
What #IBeatFATE Means to Me
People sometimes talk about overcoming adversity as though there’s a moment when everything becomes easier. I haven’t found that moment. You can make progress and still have doubts. To me, #IBeatFATE isn’t a declaration that I’ve defeated every obstacle. It’s a refusal to let those obstacles make every decision for me.
That’s part of why the conflict between Leon and Dark Lyon matters. Neither character has a complete answer. Strength without compassion can become cruelty. Compassion without courage can leave people trapped. Somewhere between those extremes is a question about what real power means. That’s the territory I want to explore.
The Universe Is Still Growing
Season 2 is now in development. The first season established the conflict. The next chapter has to explore what happens when that conflict changes who Leon is. I’m not interested in simply making everything bigger. I want the consequences to become deeper and the choices harder.
I know what it feels like to have an idea that exists only in your imagination, and what it takes to see it become something another person can experience. I didn’t build Lyonheart Universe because somebody told me I was ready. I built it because I wasn’t willing to spend the rest of my life waiting to find out.
From pain to power. No fate unchallenged.
