Stories flow Like a Chocolate River

I love chocolate.

I love eating chocolate, and there is nothing like having a cup of hot chocolate by my side when I am reading and writing.

I love melted chocolate.

I like the smooth flow of melted chocolate and the feeling of the sweet rich texture on my tongue.

I use the same description when I read a story that is magical, and warm, and the same goes for stories that touch my heart.

In today's world, the majority of stories contain sex, horror, and swear words, particularly adult stories. Some teenage stories are just as bad.

There is nothing wrong with that. I read those kinds of stories too, but I also enjoy challenging myself to pleasant adventures.

  • Adventures that are magical.
  • Adventures that take you into childhood
  • Adventures that take you to magical and enchanting worlds
  • Adventures that melt and touch your heart
  • Adventures that delight and make you smile once you have read them
  • Adventures that do not contain swearing, horror, sex, and violence.

I still read my favorite books from childhood. They take me back to those young and magical years when I was discovering the wonders of storytelling.

The majority of my childhood books were a pleasure to read. They took me on a journey of adventure and magic where there was no violence, sex, or horror.

My books contained no swear words either, neither did the majority of my teenage books.

I was talking with another writer last week, who told me that he only writes sexual content, horror, and fiction that contains swearwords because in his eyes those are the only types of stories that he can write.

Did you know that you can create adult stories without violence, sex, or horror?

You just need to pick a theme. For example, an emotional story about looking after a loved one who is ill, a fantasy about an adult who is transformed into a magical world, a fascinating day out with family, or an adventure or time-traveling story can all be created without explicit content or language.

This is where my publication on Medium began.

I wanted to create a publication where writers could challenge themselves to write any type of fiction that didn't contain sex, horror, or swear words.

A publication that was a safe haven for any writer, including teenagers and children.

While some of us enjoy reading explicit stories, there are some of us who don't enjoy it.

However, I find most fiction on Medium and Vocal contains a lot of swearing and sexual language.

As I said before, there is nothing wrong with that. Some writers like to write it, while others find it makes it easier to write an adult story; though there are some of us who prefer not to write it.

Even I write explicit and horror stories sometimes.

I have been playing with my fiction writing recently, and I found that it can be fun and challenging to write pleasant fiction that is non-explicit, particularly adult fiction!

I also found it challenging, and it allowed me to explore a new way of adult writing. I found that omitting the explicit language from my work enabled me to explore my creativity further, and it challenged me to write differently.

However this is not easy if you have been writing explicit stories for adults for years, and that has been the only thing you have been used to in the world of fiction writing!

The best way to do it is to think like a child but write like an adult. Children's writers who write stories for children might find this easy, but an adult who has never done this before might find it difficult.

Fact: Whereas some of my stories are for children, I found them hard to write because I had been used to writing adult stories in horror, sex, and swear words for many years in my work!

I invite you to challenge yourself in the adult world, children's world, and the teenage world by writing non-explicit stories.

If you'd like to give it a go, then please visit my new publication and send me an email to my publication email as stated in the guidelines.

I actually wrote a detective book for young adults that had over 120 thousand words, not one of them a swear word. I usually don’t swear on my stories at all, and when I do it’s nothing to vulgar just the swears that are also in the Bible (not that I’m religious, not that there’s anything wrong with that.) But I think the best horror stories don’t rely on cursing or gore, they rely on a theme that causes tension, the killers hiding in the house or the ghost or monster is going to get you, etc. I always felt like “gore” stories where they go on and on with excessive grossness “just to be gross” is just lazy writing. Like, cause some tension have someone look around in a dark basement or have someone hide in a closet and watch the killer look for them as they peek outside or something. That’s just me though. That being said, great piece so congrats on that! It got me thinking! And you might want to check out my horror stories, there’s almost no gore (until maybe the end depending on which horror story you read) and absolutely no swearing! 💙♥️💚
