What is Newsbreak?

Chances are, if you are reading this, then you probably are already at least a little familiar with the site Newsbreak. However, it seems only right that we first talk about what the Newsbreak platform is. After all, not everyone will have heard about them.

Newsbreak is a writing platform that tries to be like Medium and Vocal Media. The focus of the platform though is- as the name suggests- posts that are of a news-like nature. The posts generally range from what is happening in the world, though usually narrowed down to a neighborhood or city, all the way to the gossip or latest news about celebrities and pop culture. Of course, just like the mainstream media, this usually means the posts are biased and full of misinformation. Is there a reason for that? Yes, and we will get into that in just a second.

So, in a nutshell, that is what Newsbreak is… another place that wants user-generated content and will pay you to write and post there. Well, so long as you are posting what they want you to post and you don’t stray from their agenda at all, that is.

Who Owns Newsbreak and Where are They Headquartered?

Now, we get into the telling facts about why Newsbreak is dangerous and problematic for American writers, and many others from Western countries. Most writers don’t think to look up where a platform is based out of or who owns it. However, this is actually very important information to have, especially in the current state of the world. Tensions are high and the stakes are ever-increasing as the days go by. It’s not a conspiracy at this point… it’s just obvious fact.

A simple search on Google and you will have the answer to the above question. Search “Who owns Newsbreak and where are they Headquarters” on Google and you’ll see this near the top of the results…

Headquartered in Mountain View, California, and with offices in Seattle, Beijing and Shanghai, it's owned by Particle Media, a parent company founded in 2015. News Break is led by a team of Chinese entrepreneurs and engineers with extensive experience in both the U.S. and China.

Exactly, Newsbreak is owned by China! Of course, they have an office here in the United States, and of course, that office is in California. One of the most liberal and oblivious states in the country is home to a lot of corrupt China-owned and operated businesses. It’s easier to spy and interfere with a country if you can do it from the inside. However, that’s not even the point of this post. The point is simply this…

It’s never a good idea to give your personal information to, or make money for, a country that hates you and wants to rule over you like they do their own people.

My Personal Experience with Newsbreak

I’m sure you are wondering, and the answer is yes, I do have my own personal experience with the Newsbreak platform. Before I looked them up and learned more, I decided to upload some content and just test out the site. Honestly, I was doing it as much with the intention of making a YouTube video and informing my writer subscribers, as I was to create a new income source. That experience with the platform is what reminded me to look them up and get more information.

Since it is meant to be a news-like site, and I couldn’t care less about researching or writing about celebrities, I decided to write about political issues. I am a right leaning independent, so of course, I told the blunt truth about what has been going on. Well, Newsbreak flagged my posts and took it out of public view. They continuously invented issues with it, while at the same time, never really gave me a straight answer as to why they took it down. Mind you, every post was factual and written with honest portrayals of what was happening.

In fact, I even asked myself if my bias had leaked into it at all, and since they encourage the use of AI for posts, I figured it was worth a try. So, I had an AI program write a few posts about political subjects that pointed out the facts of what was happening. They took them all down… siting the use of AI! Yes, the same platform that plasters its encouragement of the use of AI-written posts, then took these down, saying it was because they were written with AI. In fact, one of the posts was just a history piece on how, when, and why the Republican party was formed. Yep, they put a strike on that one too and removed it from public view.

Closing Thoughts

So, I strongly suggest to all writers who are from the United States or any other Western country, do not create a Newsbreak account and post there. The Chinese government uses these things to gather information on citizens of their enemies (that’s us) and to control the narrative as best they can. You will not find freedom of speech or fair treatment on Newsbreak. The platform is communist because it is owned by communists. Stay clear! You are far better off spending your time and energy posting on Medium and Vocal Media, and perhaps other platforms you may find. Just be sure to look up the company before you give them your time, energy, efforts, and especially before you give them your personal information.
