Honda has introduced the latest version of the fifth-generation City sedan, with prices ranging from Rs 11.49 lakh to Rs 20.39 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the top-spec City Hybrid. The new model boasts minor aesthetic changes, improved features, new entry-level versions, and an additional paint option.

Honda adds new entry-level trims and ADAS features to City facelift range

The petrol version of the Honda City facelift now comes with Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) technology and is equipped with both petrol and strong hybrid powertrains. Additionally, it includes new features like rain-sensing wipers.

Thanks to the addition of new entry-level trims, the starting prices for both the City petrol and City Hybrid have been reduced. The new entry-level City petrol is now Rs 38,000 more affordable than the previous version, while the City hybrid is now a full Rs 1 lakh cheaper. However, the prices of existing trims have risen by Rs 15,000-35,000, depending on the variant.

Honda City Facelift: Subtle Cosmetic Changes Inside-Out and New Paint Shade Option

Honda's latest update to the City sedan brings with it a slew of subtle yet notable changes. The mid-life-cycle facelift has resulted in minor cosmetic updates both on the exterior and interior.

Starting from the front, the bumpers have been tweaked and the grille now boasts a slender chrome bar. The familiar sweptback tail-lamps, featuring nine LED arrays, have been retained. The grille design has been refreshed and showcases a honeycomb pattern on the higher-end variants and vertical slats on the lower ones.

Although not much has changed on the side profile, the alloys now feature a new design. The rear of the City facelift features newly-designed bumpers and reflectors that have been repositioned. Additionally, Honda has also introduced a spoiler on the trunk. As a part of this update, Honda is also offering the new Obsidian Blue Pearl paint shade option.

The changes to the interior are subtle, with the layout, upholstery and switchgear remaining unchanged. The City facelift features a beige and black theme for the petrol variants, while the hybrid variants boast an ivory and black theme. Overall, the Honda City facelift continues to offer a comfortable and sophisticated ride with a touch of added elegance.

Honda has expanded the City range with the introduction of new entry-level variants. The latest addition is the SV trim, which is available with manual transmission. The petrol version of the City facelift is now offered in a total of four trims - SV, V, VX and ZX. With the exception of the SV trims, all the other variants come with a CVT gearbox.

Variant wise pricing

Variant Petrol Manual Price Petrol Automatic Price Petrol-Hybrid Price

SV ₹ 11.49 Lakh

V ₹ 12.37 Lakh ₹ 13.62 Lakh ₹ 18.89 Lakh

VX ₹ 13.49 Lakh ₹ 14.74 Lakh

ZX ₹ 14.72 Lakh ₹ 15.97 Lakh ₹ 20.39 Lakh

In addition, Honda has also introduced the new entry-level V trim for the City Hybrid, which was previously only available in the top-spec ZX trim.

The City facelift now boasts advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) features such as adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, and autonomous emergency braking even in the petrol variants. Previously, ADAS was only available in the City Hybrid. Remarkably, Honda has made ADAS available in the manual variants of the petrol City too, which is not commonly found in other cars.

Furthermore, Honda has incorporated a new feature into the ADAS technology in the City Hybrid called "Low-Speed Follow" function. This function enables the driver to maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front. Additionally, the car comes with a "Lead Car Departure Notification System" that alerts the driver when the vehicle ahead starts moving.

The higher variants of the midsize sedan come with six airbags, a tyre-pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and some exciting new features like rain-sensing wipers, ambient lighting, a wireless charger, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. With these new additions, Honda has further improved the safety and convenience features in the City facelift.

Honda has revamped the powertrain lineup for the City facelift, which now only comes with petrol and petrol-hybrid options. The 1.5-litre diesel engine has been dropped in anticipation of the upcoming Real Driving Emission (RDE) norms. The City facelift now comes with a 121hp, 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine mated to either a 6-speed manual or a CVT gearbox, and a 126hp, Atkinson Cycle 1.5-litre petrol-hybrid paired to an eCVT transmission.

The City remains the sole car in its class to offer a strong-hybrid powertrain. Both powertrain options will meet RDE norms and be E20 compliant. The petrol-manual City facelift offers a claimed fuel efficiency figure of 17.8kpl and the petrol-auto version delivers 18.4kpl. Meanwhile, the City Hybrid delivers an impressive claimed fuel-efficiency figure of 27.13kpl.

Honda is offering a 3 year/unlimited-kilometre warranty as standard on both the City petrol and the City Hybrid, which can be extended up to 5 years. For the City hybrid, Honda is offering an 8-year/1,60,000km warranty on its lithium-ion battery.

The Honda City facelift will compete with models such as the Skoda Slavia, Volkswagen Virtus, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, and the Hyundai Verna. Hyundai is all set to unveil the new-gen Verna on March 21 with radical new looks and two petrol powertrain options. While Maruti Suzuki recently updated the Ciaz with more features and additional paint shade options, the City facelift offers unique features such as ADAS features on manual variants, a strong-hybrid powertrain, and impressive fuel efficiency figures, making it a strong contender in the mid-size sedan segment.
