Citroen made its grand entry into the Indian market on April 7th, 2021, with the stylish Citroen C5 Aircross. Priced at 29.10 lakhs, it offered a premium experience to customers.

In 2022, Citroen followed up with the launch of the C3 hatchback, designed on the India-specific CMP modular platform. The next exciting addition to their lineup will be the Citroen C3 Aircross, a SUV in the size range of the popular Creta, built upon the C3 platform.

Looking forward, Citroen has plans to introduce the Citroen C3X sedan in 2024, drawing inspiration from both the C3 and C3 Aircross. This sedan will showcase a similar front styling and adopt fastback design cues, reminiscent of the successful C4X model available in Europe. The new and unique styling will undoubtedly set the C3X apart, creating a fresh and unparalleled experience in the Indian segment.

C3x will be competing against the likes of Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Skoda Slavia and Volkswagen Virtus.

In addition to significantly localizing components to reduce expenses, Citroen India is placing a strong emphasis on optimizing economies of scale through parts sharing across its models. A notable example is the shared utilization of interior elements like the dashboard and seats among the C3, eC3, and C3 Aircross SUV. Looking ahead, the forthcoming C3X is anticipated to incorporate more common elements from the C3 Aircross, including the fully digital instrument cluster, a 10-inch infotainment system, dashboard design, steering wheel, seating, and HVAC controls.

C3X engine options

Similar to the rest of Citroen's C-cubed models, the upcoming C3X will be built on the modular CMP platform, specifically adapted to suit Indian conditions. C3X will come with a 1.2-liter, 110hp turbo petrol engine, an all-electric variant is also in the works and is expected to be lauched in six months after the launch of the petrol-powered sedan.

Citroen currently has a streak of launching new model every year. While Citroen hasn't disclosed a specific timeline for the C3X launch, it is reasonable to anticipate that they will adhere to their pattern of releasing both internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric versions within a six-month timeframe.

C3x expected launch date

As the ICE variant of the C3 Aircross is slated for a debut around July-August, we can expect the electric version of this SUV to follow suit and hit the market in February 2024. Consequently, the much-anticipated C3X is likely to make its grand entrance in July 2024, with the electric iteration of this captivating crossover sedan arriving approximately six months later, either in January or February 2025. With this strategic approach, Citroen is poised to captivate the Indian market with a versatile range of offerings catering to various preferences and driving preferences.

Best reasons to wait for the Citroen C3X:

Disruption in the Sedan Market: Citroen aims to disrupt the mid-size sedan segment with the C3X, introducing a unique sedan coupe cross design that combines sportiness and practicality. The notchback design promises to offer plenty of luggage space, making it a distinctive and attractive choice in its segment.

Versatile and Scalable Platform: The C3X will be based on the localized Common Modular Platform (CMP), ensuring scalability, diversity, and high localization of its cars in India. This platform has been successful for other Citroen models and assures a reliable foundation for the upcoming sedan crossover.

Muscular Design and SUV Attributes: The C3X will sport a muscular and imposing design, featuring oversized wheel arches and 17-inch alloy wheels, akin to the C3 Aircross SUV. Its SUV attributes will add to its appeal, combining the best of both sedan and SUV worlds.

Modern Interiors: The cabin layout and materials of the C3X are expected to be similar to the C3 Aircross, providing a modern and comfortable experience. Features like a 10-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, all-digital driver's instrument console, and leatherette seat upholstery are likely to be included.

Potential Electric Option: Following the trend set by the C3 hatchback and SUV, Citroen plans to introduce an electric version of the C3X in the future. This offers an eco-friendly alternative for those seeking electric mobility.
