Wild, stunning seashores and blue-green waters scattered with many-hued fish make Mozambique a wonderous beach destination. Add the tracts of bush, sand dunes, eventful nightlife and unique culture in the country; this African nation is one of those treasure troves of bliss. In this article, however, we discuss what to pack for a holiday in Mozambique.

What to wear to the beach in Mozambique?

If you’re planning to spend a good part of your vacation at one of the many Mozambique luxury beach resorts you’ll need to pack for some seaside fun. Incidentally, check with resorts like Anantara Bazaruto island resort for early bird deals before booking your accommodation. It is recommend that you wear your swimsuit and bikini to the beach and pool. Pack a kaftan, sarong or pashmina to cover up when you venture elsewhere. Your pashmina or sarong can add a bit of glamour and elegance to your swimwear, and shield you from the sun’s harsh rays. You can accessorize with a simple costume jewellery piece to look fabulous for those Instagram posts. If you love snorkelling, bring your own snorkel, mask and dive shoes. If you’re a man, apart from swimwear, you can pack a few shorts and shirts.

How to pack for the weather in Mozambique?

If you’re travelling between June to August, you’ll need a fleece jumper, wrap and long trousers for chilly evenings. If your travel plans involve months between December to April, pack for hot, sticky and somewhat soggy weather. To combat the soggy factor, a light, breathable gilet is a good pick. You can download a weather app on your phone to prepare for the day.

What type of clothing to pack for Mozambique?

A good rule of thumb is to pack light while sticking to the essentials. And, what exactly would be those essentials? Let’s see. Pick lightweight clothes. They should also fit you loosely. It is always a good idea to go for natural fabrics like linen, cotton and even silk for your beach holiday. These fabrics keep you cool and dry easily when washed. You could bring some shorts and T-shirts and sun dresses. Once again, your trusty sarong or pashmina would add versatility to any outfit, and keep you safe. Avoid packing blue and black outfits. The tsetse flies find these two colours irresistible. If one were to bite you, unfortunately, you might get African sleeping sickness. Even though this is unlikely in resort areas in Mozambique, it’s always better to take precautions.

What kind of footwear should you pack for Mozambique?

Bring walking shoes for those strolls along cobbled paths by colonial buildings, and busy markets. You can bring a pair of pretty and sturdy flat sandals for evening wear. Your feet sometimes swell in the heat, and sandals would be just the thing for tired feet. If you love to play with styles, bring some snap-on decorations for your sandals. A pair of flip-flops would work well when you walk around on sandy beaches.

What else to pack for Mozambique?

You’ll need your sunglasses, a sun hat and plenty of sunscreen. Don’t forget bug spray to keep those pesky bugs away.  Bring a waterproof beach bag to carry your gear to the beach. You can avoid having to buy water all the time with a water bottle with a good filtering system installed.  Pack your own universal travel adapter to charge your devices.
