Your Own Personal Hotspot #Option1

The best and stress-free option for you will be the personal hotspot. The personal hotspot is a more effortless and cheaper option if you are with an Indian number holder. It’s always easier to get the local network for him/her and you don’t have to buy any extra packs for the travel, a small pack for data in case of emergency will get you across your vacation.

International Data/Calling Packs #Option2

If you are travelling there alone or with your friends and you don’t have anyone with an Indian network as your travel buddy then it would be difficult for you to get a hotspot every time.

Getting an international data pack for the country you are travelling to would be another option you can go for. Before leaving, by talking to your network provider you can activate the cheaper deals that might be available in your native country for the respective country you are travelling to. It’s the most expensive option on the list but worth considering.

As for now, the audio/video calling option is available on social media apps like WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram or there are separate applications like Facetime for Apple users and Google Duo or Skype for Android users, so you will do fine with a data pack-oriented plan.

But the roaming charges for the international sim card or the sim card from your own country will be comparatively too much just in case your pack ends in between.

Wi-Fi networks are always available in hotels or restaurants or any local café, so you can always do the work there when you need more data.

Buying A New Sim Card #Option3

Having an Indian sim card will give you good coverage and also offers cheaper rates, more choices, and smoother transactions

If you are travelling to India from the USA, you might not know how a sim card works, as mobile phones in the USA are directly connected with major telecom carriers such as AT&T or T-Mobile and do not have a sim card slot. But those who know and are well familiar with sim cards can skip to the next heading.

What is a Sim Card?

A sim card is technically known as the subscriber identity module, a chip type of circuit card which is hosted by a local or international mobile operator or carrier providing calling and data services.

It has to be inserted into the provided sim slot of your phone and activated later to continue using calling and internet data services.

Being a US citizen and planning to buy a new sim card for your Indian travel then unlock your phone from a local phone retailer before leaving for India.

Before buying make sure to check out the current packages of the local sim cards in India through the official websites of the Indian network provider companies.

Local Portable WIFI Device #Option4

If you are travelling with your family or friends then having a portable wifi device will be also an efficient option for you. The network providing companies like VI, Jio, and Airtel offers affordable, portable, chargeable wifi device which is only compatible with their own company cards. so if your mobile phone doesn’t have an extra slot or your card inserts a sim card in your phone (US users), then getting a portable wifi device which works with a local sim card would be a good option for you. You don’t need to pay anything extra to use your sim card on the wifi device, the same plan you have activated for your sim card will continue to work.

I hope it was helpful to you and made you a little calmer than you were before reading this. Happy Travelling!
