Traveling.

Imagine spending your life soaking up the sun, sea and sands of foreign lands?

Imagine drinking pina coladas and exploring the natural wonders of the world.

Imagine seeing it all, discovering it all, meeting them all and experiencing everything that you possibly can.

But wait...

Unfortunately, most of us will not be blessed with the financial benefits that are required for long term, sustainable travel. And boy, does travel cost a whole lot. So if you, like the rest of us, want to explore the planet and experience new things without being left totally bankrupt, then it may just be time for you to start examining some cheaper and more affordable travel options…

There is no Rush: Spreading Travel Out

There really is no reason to get traveling done while you are young. Stop rushing. While seeing the world and discovering new experiences may be a little more exciting and a little easier while you are 19, it isn’t necessary. For those of us who can't afford to just pack up and go, we will have to spread out travels out throughout our lives instead. This means only going traveling when you can justify it financially.

  • Top Tip: For short trips away, you can use Parking at Airports to save on the additional parking costs that occur in UK airports.
  • Top Tip: If you are planning on doing lots of small and short bursts of travel, then make sure that you get a job that will allow you to take time off. Carrying on making money while also traveling is a great way to go if you are not financially secure enough to take the full plunge!

Get a Job That Requires Travel

Tada! The magic potion that resolves your financial issues! By getting a job that requires regular travel, you will be able to see different parts of the globe while also being paid to do so! It can be tricky to find these jobs, and you may have to work your way up in a company beforehand, but there is no reason not to give it a try! Here are a few of the jobs that require and encourage travel:

  • Translators: If you are multilingual, then it may just be time that you travelled abroad to help with translations! This is a great way to travel!
  • Air Hostess: Being an air hostess means utilising customer service skills while in the air. Serving food to, and helping, passengers on their journeys. You will often get stop offs in other countries abroad where you will have the opportunity to explore!
  • Online: Have a wholly online business will mean that you can literally work from anywhere as long as you have internet connection and a device! Find out how you can make money online and get going!

Do Some Couchsurfing Instead

Would you rather travel around the globe in fancy hotels and clean environments, or would you be okay with sleeping on strangers couches? If you are not so bothered about rougher sleeping conditions and unknown circumstances, then it may be worth considering doing some couchsurfing.

  • Just Take a Look: Take a look at the Couchsurfing website to get a feel for the kinds of groups, communities, and hosts that you could end up staying with. While this is a great way to get some free accommodation and meet some new people, it can be a little daunting, too! Make sure that you are safe, happy, and financially prepared if you are going couchsurfing!

Volunteering Abroad Every Year

One of the best ways to see, discover, and experience different parts of the world is by volunteering. Plus, you will get a real sense of satisfaction from helping others as well. If you can't afford to go traveling full time, then it is definitely worth considering doing a few weeks of overseas volunteering every year! Here are a few of the things that you can do:

  • Beach Cleans: Head out to help with a beach clean up. Help people to clear the waste from the ocean that is surfacing on our beaches. This is a great way to meet new people, discover new places, and help the environment.
  • Teaching: Heading to deprived countries and helping the children to learn English is a great way to give them the best opportunity to be successful!
  • Helping the Turtles: One of the most popular volunteer projects includes taking baby turtles back to the ocean. Now that is cute!

Traveling can be a really expensive activity to undergo. If you want to travel, but don't have the financial stability to go the whole hog, then it may be worth considering a few of these options. From spreading your travels out and getting a job in the travel industry, to couchsurfing and regular ovease volunteer work, there really are some good alternatives to choose from.
