The sunniest capital city in Australia is an amazing tourist destination worth adding to your wish list. The stunning ocean sunsets, amazing wineries and bushlands are some easy finds in the city. To get a taste of the lifestyle of Perth or make a fantastic holiday to remember for the rest of your life, here are some options that will give you an itchy feet!

Explore the Famous Swan River on a Cruise

The famous Swan River running its course through the city of Perth is a charming feature that has more to it than what meets the eye. Back in the 19th century, there was a race between the English and the French to claim custody of the river precinct. And eventually when the English gained victory, Perth became the first-ever Australian colony made of free settlers. To explore the meandering river, you may get on board a Swan River Cruise that has been much loved by the tourists and the locals in the city alike. And for the uninitiated, the river is home to some 130 species of fish and wildlife, including a special breed of Indo-Pacific Bottlenose dolphins. If you’re lucky enough, a Perth River cruise might be your chance to see some of these wildlings in their natural habitat.

Rottnest Island

Island getaways are probably one of the most exciting and in-demand tourist experiences in Perth. The famous Rottnest Island has climbed the ladder of fame in the past decade through people sharing selfies and pics of the popular quokkas, a friendly mammal with a smiling face. On a rough estimate, there are around 12000 quokkas living on the island today; which implies it wouldn’t be too hard to find one in your vicinity. Besides homing the happiest animal on the planet, the Rottnest Island is also a picture-perfect haven flaunting white sandy beaches, secluded coves and shallow waters perfect for swimming and snorkeling. This little paradise of a land is a must-visit,especially if you’re craving to reconnect with nature.

See the Wildflowers

The world-famous wildflowers of Perth are a splendid tourist attraction that amaze tens and thousands of locals and visitors. The wildflower collection in Western Australia is arguably the largest on Earth. During the flowering season, there are special tours that take visitors through the wildflower regions. With over 12,000 species, 60% of which cannot be found anywhere else on Earth, these wildflowers colour the landscapes from the coast to the city and forest to the outback. The flowering season typically begins in the north in August on the outback plains of Coral Coast, Pilbara and Goldfields where colourful blooms complement the Pindan earth, rugged canyons and the turquoise blue sea. By September, it moves south and reaches Perth’s botanical gardens, national parks and reserves, finishing in October across the forests and coastal areas of the South West.

Cultural Aboriginal Tours

Go on a cultural Aboriginal tour in Perth to explore the authentic indigenous cultural experiences. This is an opportunity to spend time with the Noongar people, the original inhabitants of the land, and you’ll obtain a deeper insight of the places you’re visiting. Take an informative and entertaining walking tour through the city with a Noongar guide to witness the ancient meeting the modern world. Or explore the city in no rush as you get an understanding about the deep spiritual connection that the First Peoples have with this land. In Perth’s civic centre, you should visit the Aboriginal art wing at the Art Gallery of Western Australia (AGWA), which is free to visit.

Hoping you’ll have a great time in Perth!
