The gorgeous and legendary land of India is known for its extravagances, history, and mammoth diversity. The country is tranquil and one of the most popular travel destinations in the world. Travelling to India, attracts backpackers, cultural and mystical seekers, and just those in search of a homely abode. It is also the birthplace of yoga, meditation, and it is no surprise that many travellers travel across the globe to experience a yoga and meditation retreat in India. I’ve been fortunate to have spent many years of my life in this implausible country. I’m giving my recommendation to you of the destinations that you must visit in India – these are the most beautiful, unique and stunning destinations.

Shimla – The queen of hills is a serene hill station a must-visit if you are in Himachal Pradesh. Mall road will give you a plethora of snow-capped mountain views and a glimpse of the local market. Shimla is a peak point for many bike riders who take bike trip to Himachal Pradesh.

Taj Mahal – A marvel in its kind. A world heritage site and a world wonder it was constructed in 1632 by Mughal Emperor. Excellent craftsmanship and a UNESCO HERITAGE SITE. A must-visit destination in India.

Mumbai – The glitz and glitter of this will charm you. The home of one of the biggest entertainment cinema industries – Bollywood in Mumbai. The financial and cosmopolitan capital of India. The Arabian Sea blossoms on the shorelines and in South Mumbai you will see architecture dating back to the times of the East India Company. Lord Ganesh festival Ganesh Chaturthi is the largest festival here celebrated for 10 days.

Gokarna, Karnataka – a silent town on the beachside is an alternative spot for Goa lovers. It is a jewelled crown of Karnataka. For backpackers and travellers seeking solace and learning yoga or practising meditation Gokarna is bliss. Being un-spoilt makes it more beautiful.

Old Silk Road Route – one of the ancient trade routes and largest is Old Silk Route Road which connected East to West. The cities run through Delhi, Patna, Allahabad and this is an historic real journey to North India. These cities are home to some ancient cultures and states from Anatolia via China and take the royal road.

Jodhpur – The blue city – The view from Mehrangarh Fort of this blue city is magnificent. The brahmins colour their houses in blue to keep them cool in the scorching sun, also they do so to distinguish themselves from the other clan of communities. Jaisalmer - Gadi Sagar - Kuldhara – Jaisalmer is a golden city renowned among international tourists from all across the world. The Gadi Saar lake is a man-made lake that surrounds temples, a golden gate, shrines and an amazing ghat. You may spot migratory birds like – spoonbills, black-winged stilts and domestic geese.

Pushkar – It is a hypnotic place and it is on the edge of the Thar desert. It is one of the ancient towns in India and is surrounded by ghats and lakes. On Kartik Purnima, the Hindus celebrate the camel festival the largest of its kind in India. You won’t forget this place.

Lahaul and Spiti Valley – It is the most barren and cold mountains desert valley in the Himalayan region. Spiti valley is divided into Lahaul via Kumzum Pass which is at 15059 ft. Leh Ladakh – If you love snow leopards – Leh Ladkha is the place – there is a higher chance to spot one if you love to hike. Leh Ladakh is a jaw-dropping place for hikers, backpackers and mountain views. The land of Stupas has a Buddhist monastery dating back to the 8th – 9th century. Gulmarg – It is a popular skiing destination and a hill station in Jammu Kashmir. The scenic beauty and Pir Panjal Range of the western Himalayas will leave you awe-stuck. You can take skiing lessons here – short term and long term both.

Gurez Valley - Gurez, or Gurais, is a mystical and stunning valley located in the high Himalayas. It is about 86 kilometres from Bandipore and 123 kilometres from Srinagar in northern Kashmir and southern Gilgit-Baltistan. The Kishanganga River flows through the valley and it is one of the gateways to the famous Silk Route from Europe to Kashgar in China.

Rishikesh – It is famous for all the reasons. On the banks of the Ganges, it is loved by artists and musicians from all over the world and is known as the spiritual city that became famous by the Beatles. They stayed at Chaurasi Kutia Ashram and studied transcendental meditation with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. A flock of tourists come to Rishikesh for river rafting, bungee jumping and the local market to visit is a delight.

Akshardham Temple – It is exactly 24 km from Ahmedabad. Close to the border of Noida, you can visit the temple and stay in Delhi. It is a Hindu temple and a structurally beautiful temple. The word Akshardham means the abode of Swaminarayan and is worshipped by followers as a temporal home of God on earth.

Nohkalikai Falls – The tallest waterfall in India. It plunges from 335 meters high stream of cliffs surrounded by rogues' wet forests of Cherrapunji. It is also one of the wettest places in the world. The pool gives you the view of turquoise water cramped by forest rocks and stones.

The Konkan Coast – It extends throughout the western coasts of Maharashtra, Goa and Karnataka. The coast is less developed and pristine which is why you will be able to explore unseen beaches and coastline to the entire stretch of 720km long. Few beaches that you explore on this coastline are – Murud, Alibaug, Diveagar, Ganpatiphule, and Karde.

Hawa Mahal – Jaipur built from red and pink sandstone is a miracle in itself. It has 953 windows or jharokhas, that meticulous architecture in honeycomb design. It is also called the palace of winds. Pondicherry – an elegant love child of the French and Indian cultures. Crammed with pristine beaches, heritage buildings, French and Tamil quarters, primaeval temples and churches and a colonial atmosphere, this French Colony has a glut of things to do and see.

Bhimkund – The mysterious natural water pool dating back to the times of Mahabharat. The depth of the pool is unknown to date. The dead bodies float in this pool. The water is turquoise blue and warm. It is located near Bajna village in Chhatarpur district, Madhya Pradesh.

Gandikota – The Grand Canyon of India – is almost similar to the one in the USA. A marvellous gorge on the banks of Penna River is located in the Andhra Pradesh state of India. It has a fort to see and a Lord Shiva Temple dating back to the 4th century.

Kodaikanal – is one of the most famous honeymoon destinations in India. It is at 2,000 meters above sea level, and the town centres around man-made, star-shaped Kodaikanal Lake, which is bordered by evergreen forest. It is also known as Princess of Hill Stations. In Tamil, Kodaikanal means 'Gift of Forest'.
