There is no denying the fact that an Australian island state like Tasmania is an ideal destination to spend quality time with your family with its pristine beaches, ancient rainforests, and stunning mountain ranges. The stunning natural beauty, fresh air, and friendly locals of Tasmania make it a perfect place to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. For a relaxing beach break, an outdoor adventure, an exciting cultural experience, breathtaking coastal hikes and wildlife encounters, to historic sites and delicious local produce, Tasmania offers something for everyone.

With its array of activities, attractions, and events, it is a great place to explore and make memories with your loved ones. From camping, cruising, fishing to visiting historical sites and taking scenic walks, there are plenty of ways to spend time with your family in Tasmania.

Launceston

Home to some of the exciting activities you can do in Tasmania, Launceston is a family pack of fun.

  • Visit the National Automobile Museum of Tasmania, Launceston Tramway Museum, the Phenomena Factory at Queen Victoria Art Gallery & Museum
  • Kids will love Devil’s Heaven at Tasmania Zoo
  • For all those who love the great outdoors, there is the Cataract Gorge, an urban park where you will find walking tracks, landscaped gardens, exotic and native wildlife
  • Many Cataract Gorge lookout points offer incredible views like the scenic chairlift
  • To explore the city and take you around the most important areas of Launceston like the Tamar Valley, Cataract Gorge and more, hop aboard one of the Tamar river cruises.

The Royal Launceston Show has been held annually since 1873 at the local showgrounds in October. Saunter through the exhibits and gear up for a truckload of entertainment. With more attractions being added each year, it promises an unforgettable day out.

Hobart

The capital of Tasmania, Hobart is one of the most family-friendly cities – one that can be enjoyed in a budget-friendly way. There are a plethora of sights and activities in this waterfront city suitable for all ages.

  • Soak in the breathtaking views atop Mount Wellington
  • Saunter around the markets in Salamanca Place with its Georgian architecture
  • Picnic at the majestic Botanical Gardens
  • Explore the Battery Point historic walk
  • Museum lovers must visit the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery
  • Be a part of an enthralling cultural experience at MONA (Museum of Old and New Art)

Try the Hobart Bike Hire, for a family fun ride. You can hire a bike for each family member and enjoy the unique views of Mt. Wellington. Traverse the steep hills of Hobart via a Hop-On Hop-Off Bus, which will take you on a 90-minute city circle tour of the city's highlights.

Port Arthur

As you enjoy a day tour to Port Arthur, visit the Port Arthur Historic site, a site of great national significance. It is listed as one of Tasmania’s top tourist attractions by the UNESCO World Heritage. Go on a guided walking tour and learn the history of this exceptional and well-preserved historic site. The heritage buildings and ruins are surrounded by landscaped grounds and gardens that look out onto the harbour. Take a tour around the Port Arthur Gallery as well.

If you are looking for something thrilling, try the Port Arthur ghost tour after dark. Not advisable to take kids along, as there are chances of spotting paranormal activity. If history is to be believed, the site has been a penal settlement for 47 years, with over 1000 deaths.

Cradle Mountain

At the top of the Tiers, is the Cradle Mountain. Beautiful mountain scenery, lakes, wildlife and walking tracks along with magnificent views of Tasmania’s wonderful inland landscape. There are a number of walking tracks that take you through the National Park that allow you to soak in the scenery. There is the majestic Dove Lake at the foot of the mountain, known as one of the popular walks on the west coast of Tasmania. There are many people who travel to the mountain with kids to visit the area for the beautiful walks. You get to see some native wildlife that reside on the mountain as well.

For the perfect family holiday, try mountain hiking at Cradle Mountain.

So, what are you waiting for? Opt to go aboard one of the Launceston river cruises, hire a Hobart Bike, go on a spooky Port Arthur ghost tour or hike at Cradle Mountain for a memorable and enjoyable experience with your whole family. Pack your bags and explore the wonders of Tasmania, get ready for an unforgettable Tassie holiday.
