solo travel
You've got somewhere to go, but no one to go with; solo travel is the nexus of independence and opportunity.
Camino de Santiago, Day 4—From Pamplona to Puente la Reina
This morning I felt very well-rested and ready to go. Spending yesterday’s afternoon and evening out in Pamplona was like an energy boost for me.

The travel mentality is a beautiful, opportunity opening way to walk through life. It’s also a perspective that I struggle to maintain when not traveling. What do I mean? I’m talking about the natural curiosity that comes from stepping into a place for the first time, having the luxury of time to follow your curiosity wherever it leads, to engage in conversation with strangers, to really see your surroundings instead of tuning them out on the way from point A to point B. The travel mentality is a beautiful metaphor for life: we may have a destination in mind, but if we leave ourselves open to the unknown along that journey, we may discover a more enriching path that we may not have even considered or known existed before setting out.
Camino de Santiago, Day 3—From Zubiri to Pamplona
Today supposed to be a short day after yesterday’s super-long one, so we weren’t rushing. Left in the last minute, 8 AM sharp—usually, they are kicking you out early in the morning from the hostels. Also, at night around 11 PM is lights out, gates locked. Good night if you got back on time… if you did not? Well, too bad. We had some breakfast and walked around a bit in this cute town.

After the first hardcore day and the first night ever spent in a hostel, I was so not fresh and so not ready for the second day of my Camino.

So here we are and all this is becoming superreal. I had a few amazing days in Paris with my sister, had my pre-30th birthday celebrations and today on the 1st of May, I am sitting on a train that takes me to Saint Jean Pied de Port.

The final countdown begins... One week left before my biggest adventure ever—well… so far. Yeah, pretty soon I will sit on a plane with the one-way ticket that will take me away from Manchester. Take me away from everything and everyone I know, away from friends, and my daily routine, away from work and the hamster run. So you wanna hear about thoughts and stuff now, right? Well, here you go—there are moments when I’m still not 100 percent sure if I reeeally realized what am I actually about to do. But it’s okay.

When arriving in California, after an epic roadtrip, seizing the means of familiar and future was my primary personal task. I didn't have even a bed, yet. I'll have fixed that by now, I hope! A boat, however, that was the logical first step for someone who dreams of seeing the world in the most sustainable way possible, and creating content to share with everyone along the way of chasing that dream.

How it started Do you like yourself? Are you good company? Those are questions that might be worth asking if you travel alone. I never really thought about those questions, even having spent a good amount of time in my own company.

Paisley HansenPublished 5 years ago in WanderCampsite #10, Biei: A Flourish of Flowers
Biei was by far the most romantic sorta place I visited on my travels. Perfectly-lined fields of grass and dirt waiting for seeds to sprout forth their life into the fresh country air, flower farms bursting with all colours of the rainbow, the surging, fluorescent blue of the Biei River, all set against the backdrop of the great Daisetsuzan mountain range... this was a place I wasn't going to leave in a hurry.

Rumi Jalalud-Din once said, "Travel brings power and love back into your life," and we couldn't agree more! When is the last time you allowed yourself to travel solo and let go of your inhibitions? Many couples in serious relationships hesitate to be away from their partner for an extended period, but the truth is that being apart for a few days can bring the love back into your relationship.
