Things I Wish Someone Told Me When I Quit My Job to Travel the World

There aren't any!

Me enjoying the heck out of exploring Turks and Caicos.

For the second time, I have quit my job without a plan in place other than to travel. What do I wish I knew before I did this? Nothing! Here's why.

There is not a job on the planet that is worth losing your morals for.

There is not a job on the planet that is worth your mental health.

There is not a job on the planet that is worth your physical health.

If you are in a position that your employment is affecting your mental or physical health, or going against your morals and everything you stand for—LEAVE. Find any other way. It is NOT worth it. This is why, for the second time, I decided to leave my job without any other plans in place. I come first, before anything and anyone. Without your health, you have nothing; without anything, you cannot enjoy all that this wonderful world has to offer.

There are very few things I wish I knew before I decided to quit my job and begin to travel endlessly (as I am always one to embrace the unknown and just wing it!), however, here are a few things I did find quite interesting, that might help you.

  1. Suddenly, everyone plus their aunt thinks that your personal finances are their business. I am not ‘working,’ I am obviously capable of doing so, and it is such a strange thing to be repeatedly asked how much money I have, and how I can be doing this. Own your freedom and don't feel you have to answer anyone who asks you about your personal freedom.
  2. It can get really expensive to travel without planning ahead, if you get too excited and don’t look at your options. I personally wing it, but I do recommend planning ahead if you are on a strict budget, there are plenty of ways to travel very cheaply—free campsites, communities, and groups that offer free stays, and even large companies that you can get free stays for an annual membership fee.
  3. It is going to be SO much freaking fun! You are going to have the time of your life, see the most unbelievable places, and meet the most interesting people—every day.

You only get one life, enjoy the heck out of it while you can, and NEVER let anyone, or any job, hold you back from the person you want to be.
