Tasmania: for wildlife and history

Tasmania is one of the best places for traveling alone, no matter what kind of traveler you are. But, there are few places that can be deemed safer than "Tassie." With its friendly locals and great road network, you really can’t get lost—so, it is safe for both men and women traveling alone, even at night. There isn’t a great party scene, but it has an abundance of wildlife. Tassie is one of the islands most filled with national parks and reserves—Its untouched landscapes will leave you breathless while you walk through ancient rainforests. Tasmania is also known for its "Tasmanian Devil"—an animal unique to the island, resembling more of a little pig than a devil. It has gotten its name for the cries that it lets out during the night, and its ability to chew through bones. There is a whole park dedicated just for these little devils.

For the history part, you should definitely go see Port Arthur, the old convict settlement. For true history buffs, this place will show you what life looked like in the 19th century. You can also visit ruins, and the nearby coal mines for more insight on the beginning of Tasmania, as it is today.

Depending on what you want to see while traveling there, look up the best time to visit Tasmania, what kind of weather you can expect, and what you will need to bring.

Vietnam: for backpacking and adventure

Vietnam is perfect for solo travelers, because it doesn’t have such a progressively-growing nightlife and party scene as Thailand. Vietnam is better if you want something more relaxing. It is a bit more unfamiliar, and thus cheaper. This place is definitely a dream come true for any backpacker because of its famous backpacking routes, and you will have no problems meeting new people. There are many people who speak English, but not so many that you feel like you haven’t gone anywhere. People are friendly and love meeting travelers, so you won’t have a problem getting directions or finding accommodation. For more the adventurous of you, Vietnam offers sledding down the Mui Ne sand dunes, as well as kayaking on the bay. For more nature-loving adventurists, climbing up the natural karst walls is a bullseye!

If you like not knowing what tomorrow may bring, then Cuba is the best place for you. It is rumored to be a rough place to travel, but it is just as safe as any other place. People are friendly and caring, and therefore, you don’t need to be scared about going solo to Cuba—even as a female solo traveler. You will easily make new friends who will give you valuable recommendations about where to eat and where to stay, and will give you directions. As for the music, there isn’t a part of Cuba where you won’t hear music—it flows through locals’ veins, and it is like a language to them. If you go to Cuba, be sure to attend at least one salsa class, as it will be the best one you ever take!

Ireland: for friendliness and nature

Traveling alone in Ireland has its mitigating circumstance, as there is no language barrier. Irish, or the Gaelic language, is the official language, but most people are also fluent in English, speaking with an Irish accent that you will get used to after only a day or two. The Irish are a chatty bunch, so it will be easy to start a conversation, even for introverts, since one simple yes/no question can turn into a long conversation. That is the great part of Ireland: You will never feel lonely, even as a solo traveler. While there, be sure not to miss the beautiful nature Ireland has to offer. It is full of national parks that you just have to walk through. Just be careful to fasten your walking boots, since many walks will be hilly!

Israel: for history and cycling

Although many people have the wrong impression that Israel is not safe, it is one of the safest places for travelers, especially for women. Women now account for half of the travelers that visit Israel. Jerusalem in Israel is a 3,000-year-old city that has many religious attractions and monuments to offer, so you definitely need to visit it! Make sure to visit the Western (or Wailing) Wall, the center for Jewish worship. Among other places you need to visit are Nazareth, the place of organic goat farms; Golan Heights, the ring of ruins; and the Garden of Gethsemene. If your timetable allows it, visit the two seas—the Dead Sea, in which you can float, and the Red Sea, the place to snorkel and dive. Israel also offers many cycling routes—almost 60 single and double tracks, covering around 1,300 kilometers. The most popular is the Givat HaMoreh Forest Trail, a 29 kilometer-long trail with killer views!
