Traveling in style has always been in vogue, and these days, the competition for being the most lavish hotel in America has never been more extreme. Nowadays, resting in the lap of a luxury hotel or resort takes many different forms — including the hyper luxury form.

In the hyper luxury hotel market, regular patrons include politicians, millionaires, billionaires, and A-list celebrities. All of the venues in this market are competing for the title of the most luxurious and decadent hotel in the world.

Ever wonder what it's like to enjoy life as a millionaire. Taking a trip to one of the most expensive hotels in the West Coast can give you a good idea. But the question remains — can you even afford a night at one of these venues?

Post Ranch Inn — Big Sur, CA

A favorite among celebrities, the Post Ranch Inn in Big Sur has become known for having pristine views of California's beaches, oak wood flooring, and hyper-modern architecture. It's also known for being one of the most expensive hotels on the West Coast, thanks to its average room price of $790 per night.

So, what do you get for almost $800 per day? Well, you get optional helicopter rides, yoga classes, a chef's tasting menu, star gazing, heated infinity pools, and of course, a private library for business matters. Along with the included amenities are options to go to the spa there, and also check out the Post Ranch Inn's fine dining restaurant.

Yeah, we can see why it's a favorite.

The Lodge at Pebble Beach — Pebble Beach, CA

If you have ever seen a movie that featured a super-high class country club venue, there's a decent chance that it probably looked like the Lodge at Pebble Beach. This stately hotel is known for being affordable only to the super-wealthy, with an average room rate of $950.

As one of the only 5-star hotels in the Monterey area, the Lodge at Pebble Beach has become pretty famous for being able to cater to difficult demands, having a star-studded client base, and also just having incredible views of the beach.

Rooms come with options like wood-burning fireplaces, marble bathrooms, views of the private fairway, and private whirlpool soak tubs. Every room is the size of a large studio apartment, and members also get the option to play a round at the Lodge's world-famous golf club.

Considering that the Lodge is reputed to be one of the most expensive hotels on the West Coast as well as on the East Coast, it's easy to see why so many people use vacations there as a status symbol. Needless to say, there may have been a bit of inspiration in some of those Hollywood movies that came from the Lodge at Pebble Beach.

The London West Hollywood — Hollywood, CA

Though it's not high up on lists of the most expensive hotels on the West Coast, the truth is that The London West Hollywood is a venue that has quite a few pricey rooms, with a minimum average room rate of over $400 per night.

The London West Hollywood's trademark look is one of modernity, and thanks to that sleek look and its infamous rooftop bar, it's become a hotspot for celebrities, agents, and sports players who want to get away for a while. To a point, it's almost a given that you'll see at least one big shot in the entertainment industry when you stay here.

So, what do you get for $400-plus per night?

Marble mosaic bathrooms, bedrooms outfitted with the best interior design aesthetics in the industry, a personal wet bar, and a private workstation are the very basic goodies you can expect.

If you choose to go for a more luxurious, you can opt for a $900 suite that features a private kitchenette, a fully stocked private wet bar, fresh flowers, valet service, and a private study room. However, that alone isn't the most luxurious option you can choose...

The most expensive room in the hotel is the Penthouse. Incidentally, this is one of the main reasons why The London West Hollywood is considered to be one of the most expensive hotels on the West Coast.

The penthouse suite gives you a sprawling 5,000 square foot room with two private bedrooms, two private bathrooms, a private garden outfitted for rooftop barbecues, and 360-degree views of the skyline. The cost for the penthouse is only given by appointment and is rumored to be several thousand dollars.

Beach Village at the Del — Coronado, California

If you want to go to a hotel that's so beautiful, it's surreal, then you might want to check out Beach Village at the Del. This hotel isn't really a hotel per se, as much as it is a village of beachside condos that you can rent for the day. Partly because of all the amenities they offer, and partly due to the high price of rent in San Diego, Beach Village regularly ranks among the most expensive hotels in the West Coast.

Beach Village at the Del gives every single visitor a full luxury hotel experience, and that's part of the reason why rooms begin at around $900 per day. Every visitor gets gated community access, concierge service, a complimentary breakfast, private pools, a personal cabana, and access to the beach as well.

Along with those standard amenities, Beach Village at the Del also boasts a private spa, private shops, as well as chef-catered meals and restaurants for those who are feeling hungry. Needless to say, those who book a hotel room here will have every need they want catered to.

Calistoga Ranch — Calistoga, CA

Most of the luxury hotels that you'll see on this list will focus on urban, modern, oceanic, or European-style decor. Calistoga Ranch doesn't. Rather, it focuses on a rustic, deserty ambiance that gives you the ability to become one with nature and relax.

This Napa Valley resort is known for giving every guest a private lodge, scenic views of local flora and fauna, a personal fireplace, and private outdoor spa amenities. Larger lodges include a full kitchen, upgraded spa systems, as well as a number of other quality amenities.

Every guest also gets nature retreat access, biking/hiking trail access, optional yoga classes, and winery tours, which make this ranch resort one of the best places to go for spa, wine, and exercise aficionados alike. The typical hotel room here costs $900, with more luxurious suite options topping the scale at $1,800 or more.

Auberge du Soleil — Rutherford, CA

Modeled after an ancient monastery, Auberge du Soleil is considered to be one of the most expensive hotels on the West Coast — especially in the Napa Valley region. This top rated hotel is known for providing some of the best views of Napa Valley and giving people an incredibly high level of privacy.

Every lodging option here comes with a private soaking tub, a private garden, world class views, and plush bedding. All guests also get access to pristine pools, trails, exercise classes, and social meetups. Those who go here also get access to the private restaurant, which regularly hosts tasting events and wine pairing nights as well.

A single room starts at around $1000 per night while renting a private Maison will run you upwards of $2,100. That being said, the ultra wealthy insist that it's a price that's reasonable to pay for the breathtaking views and service.

The Nines — Portland, OR

The Nines proves that not all of the most expensive hotels on the West Coast reside in California. This insanely gorgeous luxury hotel is all about bringing world class service, amenities, and aesthetics to Portland — and it succeeds.

The Nines gives guests spacious rooms, a full concierge service, a billiards table, planned social events, as well as minor amenities like a shoe shine service and a complimentary newspaper. What really sets The Nines apart from others would have to be its many dining options, luxury bars, and lounges.

Simply put, it's a gastronomic paradise of a hotel, and if you love gourmet food, you'll enjoy a stay at The Nines. Booking a room here begins at $500 a night, and it only gets pricier from there.

Four Seasons Hotel — Seattle, WA

There's no way to make a list of the most expensive hotels on the West Coast without mentioning at least one of the Four Seasons hotels. From the research we performed, Four Seasons is currently the most expensive hotel in Washington State.

Every room is specifically designed to be as visually appealing and comfortable as possible — and every room has an incredible view, too. Each room also comes with real art installations done by local artists, making every single room a totally unique visual experience.

Four Seasons is a hotel that really knows how to cater to every whim you could have. Laptops, spa services, and video games all can be ordered by request here — and that's just the tip of the iceberg. Families can order babysitting services, and a full concierge is also available.

Rooms begin at $700, and high luxury suite rentals top the charts at $1,500 or more. Needless to say, it's a price that's often worth the money...if you can afford it.
