if you are planning a trip to Oman in the upcoming months you have come to the right place. Oman is a wonderful country where you are bound to experience things you will not in any other country. Blessed with both natural beauty, poetic landscapes and rich culture and heritage, Oman is a place you should be checking out. If cost constraints are what has you worried, fear not. Here are five money-saving ways you can explore Oman.

Hire a Car

Hire a car. You might think this is an exorbitant expenditure, but it is the cheapest method of getting around in Oman. Tourists can also refer to some of the best hotels in Oman for this as the hotel can make arrangements for you in the case of Al Wadi Sahar Hotel and similar resorts. Rental car prices in Oman are very competitive which means you can find very good deals as there isn't a lot of public transport available in the country, especially if you want to explore and the only other option if you don't want to drive around, is to meet up with tour groups. You will only be spending for gas and gas prices in Oman are quite affordable thanks to being an oil-rich country and none of the roads have tolls.

Preplan Your Route

Another way you can save money is to pre-plan your route and then stick to it. Also, try not to go off-road. This means you won't have to hire a 4WD and if you'd like to go off-road you could just get down and walk. You can always experience the desert through camps which arrange their transfers and unless you are planning to head deep into the mountains or villages, there would be no need for a 4 wheel drive vehicle.

Eat Local

Whenever you can eat local. It's not that hard because Omani cuisine is a rich blend of Persian, South Asian, East African and Arab influences. It will be relatively easy to find reasonably priced food options in Bangladeshi, Turkish, Pakistani or Indian restaurants all over Oman and you can also rely on street food options which give you large portions that are well worth the small amount you spend on them. Certain restaurants offer deals during lunchtime so make the most of those. There are great breakfast options near mosques which serve decently priced delicious food, so you might want to check those out as breakfast is by far the most expensive meal to find in Omani streets.

Shop for Deals

When you are shopping look for deals in souks or desert camps. If you didn't know, the Sharqiya Sands are part of the Arabian Desert and is one of the most breath-taking natural landscapes in the world. You must spend at least a day or two in an Omani desert camp. Travelling during the low season will also get you in on some fantastic deals both to do with staying in a desert camp and shopping for little trinkets and souvenirs to take back home.

Skip the Big Attractions

Skip the big attractions which are mostly tourist traps that will be overcrowded with tourists anyway and aim for the small places that not many tourists go to. You will have the added advantage of formulating great experiences for cheap as well as having the beauty all to yourself. There are plenty of cultural sites that are well maintained and thus cost a lot of money to visit. But if you can skip it for a cultural experience instead, do that.
