The dynamic capital of South Australia, Adelaide offers much to explore for those visiting this cosmopolitan city. With so much to see and do, transport becomes a vital factor especially when you need to maximise and save time. The good news is that when it comes to transport, Adelaide offers a number of options, both public and private, to help you truly experience the best of this city.

By Tram

A popular mode of transport, trams provide a wonderful way to enjoy sightseeing too. The tram network covers a wide range of stops throughout the city, while also providing convenient connections to inner suburbs including Glenelg, well-known for being a coastal getaway.

Those looking to visit key attractions in Adelaide can make use of the free city tram which operates from the South Terrace with stops at places like the Entertainment Centre and Festival Plaza; apart from also offering access to sites such as the Adelaide Central Market and Rundle Mall, this free service provides passengers with a chance to easily link up with the city's buses as well.

By Bus

Another convenient way to get around is by bus. Like the city trams, the buses are run by Adelaide Metro and this service features over 550 routes to choose from, connecting various locations in and around the city. The Adelaide Central Bus Station can be found on Franklin Street, a short walk from Avani Adelaide Residences and offers convenient connections.

Tourists should also keep in mind that there is a free bus service and it provides an ideal way to visit some of the most popular attractions; the free City Connector buses run along two loops, one that covers the inner city (99A and 99C) and the other which offers access to North Adelaide (98A and 98C). Among the sites, you can reach with this service are the Adelaide Botanic Garden, South Australian Museum and Adelaide Zoo.

By Train

Travelling by train is a great way to explore areas outside the city centre with the Adelaide Railway Station on North Terrace being the main hub. The station, which is within easy reach of centrally located Adelaide hotels and apartments, offers convenient links to destinations such as the suburb of Semaphore popular for seaside holidays and Port Adelaide. Other suburban areas you can visit via train include Salisbury and Belair each providing something different to experience.

By Taxi or Car

Comparatively expensive, though offering convenience (especially when you have done a lot of shopping!) are the taxi services that are available in the city centre. You can hail a taxi from the road or call ahead; such services are offered by Suburban Taxis, Independent Taxis and Yellow Cabs. An alternative would be to use rideshare services from the likes of Uber, Ola or GoCatch.

Those looking for more flexibility, especially if planning to explore areas further afield like the Barossa Valley, can consider care hire in Adelaide. When it comes to rentals you can find agencies at the Adelaide Airport as well as in the city; they include well-known names such as Avis, Budget and Hertz. If planning to drive yourself, do look for accommodation that features secure onsite parking too.

By Foot or Bike

One of the best things to do in Adelaide is to explore the city on foot or via some pedal-power! Many attractions such as the Adelaide Botanic Garden, South Australian Museum, Adelaide Central Market, Rundle Mall and Adelaide Zoo are within easy reach of each other. Plan ahead and enjoy walking or cycling to such sites which is also a great way to discover places off the beaten path. Bike hires can be found in and around the city centre so don't worry if you haven't brought your own.
