Thinking of travelling to the Maldives for the first time? It is definitely one of the bucket list destinations that everybody dreams of travelling to at least once in their lifetime. But if you have never been here before it is quite easy to see how you could get overwhelmed with trying to plan the perfect trip to the Maldives; which in your eyes is already the most perfect holiday destination. Here is a quick guide to the tropical island paradise right on your first try.

1. Some Basic Facts to Get You Started

Before you begin, some important factors will point you in the right direction. The first thing to keep in mind is that the Maldives can be quite expensive. As it is a world-class resort location, everywhere you are planning to stay would be of high quality in terms of service and accommodation. So, make the most of your hotel's services while you can.

The Maldives is not a destination for culture, more of an island resort where you can enjoy some peace and quiet, breath-taking blue seas, plenty of pampering, luxury and water sports. The Maldives is also a conservative Muslim country and while anything is okay when you are at a resort, once you visit the inhabited islands you need to adhere to strict dress codes and not consume alcohol or pork.

You can visit at any time of the year as resorts the likes of Anantara Dhigu Maldives Resort are packed thanks to the constant temperatures and almost unchanging weather.

2. Keep the Visit Short

If it is your first time visiting the Maldives, remember to keep your visit short. The Maldives is beautiful and there is a lot to do there, but it is best enjoyed in short succession as spending too much time can result in you feeling like there's a lot of monotony to your daily routine. Some folks would consider a double holiday in Sri Lanka and the Maldives as a little vacation in the Indian Ocean for a change. The maximum would be about a week and the minimum about four days which is plenty of time to enjoy your island resort and its luxuries.

3. Time It Right

While the Maldives is great as a tourist destination all throughout the year, if you time it right and go during the off-season you will be able to cash out on a lot of discounts and great deals. It is best to avoid the high or peak season which falls from January to March, especially if you are planning to travel with children. November or May would be a good time to go where you will be paying almost half of what you would be paying during peak season.

4. No Island Hopping

While there are plenty of resort islands to pick from and you might be tempted to visit one of the residential islands too, for your first trip to the Maldives, ignore the island hopping as it can be quite expensive and difficult especially if you are travelling with children. As mentioned above many times, the Maldives has some grand and luxurious resorts that take up entire islands and have plenty to do within the island from spas, to private pools to all kinds of water sports; as such staying put is cheaper and less of a hassle.

5. Picking Your Hotel

When looking for the best resorts in Maldives for families, go for the ones that have overwater villas with a private pool as you will have enough space for you and your family to all enjoy themselves.
