Malaysia is generally visited all year around and has a tropical climate with the year divided into rainy and dry seasons. From tropical forests to temples and amazing beaches, Malaysia has something for everyone. Keep reading to discover the best times to visit if you want to make the most of your trip to Malaysia.

Best times to visit

The best time to visit is during the dry season which begins in March and lasts till June. The weather is ideal for exploring Malaysia's luscious landscape, wonderful beaches and sites of historical and religious importance. If you visit during this time, you can avoid the rainy season, as the days are sunny and dry. Even though Malaysia is a small country its regions vastly differ according to the seasons. The Gulf of Thailand divides Malaysia into two regions, the Malay Peninsula and Sarawak bordering Borneo. Both of these regions have very different weather patterns due to the monsoonal winds.

Rainy seasons in Malaysia

Because of the coastal winds the seasons vary according to the regions. But as a tropical country, expect almost every part of Malaysia to have hot and humid weather conditions throughout the country, although the timings may differ. The rainy seasons are as follows; the western coast is from May to October,  the eastern coast is from October to March, while on the side of Malaysian Borneo, it is from November to  February.

Visiting in spring

If you visit during early springtime you can avoid the worst parts of the rainy season and explore the country without too much hassle concerning the weather. The time from March to June is also the ideal time to visit the many wildlife parks and reserves like the Taman Negara National Park. With the dry season afoot, you may catch a better glimpse of wildlife, as many animals go in search of food and water. During the rainy seasons, the park becomes very muddy, making it difficult to traverse the roads and spot wildlife. This time is also ideal for those who want to visit the Malaysian side of Borneo, which is also the start of the dry season in Borneo, and it is a particularly good time for hiking amid the lush jungles of Borneo such as Mount Kinabalu.

Beach time during spring

The best time to enjoy the fantastic Malaysian beaches is from March to June, with the Western and Eastern coasts, both primed for the ultimate beachside weather. Springtime is the start of the end of the monsoon season for both coasts, so you can enjoy lounging on the beachside and try various water sports off the islands of Malaysia like Langkawi and Perhentian islands. On the western coast, towards the end of spring, you will also be able to catch sight of nesting turtles that visit the beaches to lay their eggs.

The most economical time to visit

You will find a marked difference when visiting Malaysia during the low season than in the high season. If you don't mind braving the rain, the rainy season would be the cheapest time to visit the country. Most hotels will offer various discounts and benefits to lure in visitors during the off-season. You can find many Serviced Apartments in Bukit Mertajam, such as the likes of  Citadines Prai Penang offering great accomodation during this time. You can also get discounts in places like the Cameron Highlands, furthermore, the drop in visitors means you can get cheaper flights to Malaysia and bypass excessive tourists. Furthermore, the rainy season coincides with the sales season, so you can buy all kinds of goodies for half price than you would during the high season. Although the rainy season will differ according to the regions, towards September, October and November the monsoon rains are expected, and most of the country will experience rainy weather from time to time.
