Disneyland Resort in Anaheim is arguably Southern California’s most popular attraction. Rides like The Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean and Matterhorn still continue to entertain guests through the years. You and your family can also enjoy the big drops and splashes that you’ll experience when riding Splash Mountain. For a more relaxing ride that captures the joys of childhood, consider taking a boat ride through It’s a Small World. Parades, nighttime fireworks shows and special holiday events are showcased to provide additional entertainment. Right next door to Disneyland is Disney California Adventure Park. Similar to Disney, California Adventure Park is full of fun attractions like Cars Land, which is actually is powered by California solar panels.

Surf in San Diego

Thanks to its 70 miles of coastline, the city of San Diego boasts many great surfing spots where you and your family can go to catch a wave. La Jolla Shores Beach is considered by many to be one of the top surfing destinations where you can also go swimming or sit out on the beach to relax. Ideal waves for surfing can often be found at Black’s Beach. Other highly recommended places to go surfing in the San Diego area include Del Mar, Cardiff and Sunset Cliffs.

Visit SeaWorld

While you’re in San Diego, spending a day (or two) at SeaWorld should definitely be on your family’s travel itinerary. Live shows featuring magnificent aquatic creatures performing spectacular tricks before audiences are a must-see. Rides like the Electric Eel, Tidal Twister and Journey to Atlantis provide extra thrills. Riding Shipwreck Rapids will be ideal if you don’t mind getting wet and want to cool off on a hot day. If you visit during the summer, you can also stay to see a live music concert. For a beautiful view of Mission Bay from above, consider taking a ride along the Bayside Skyride.

Discover Lake Tahoe

Nestled along the state line between California and Nevada and less than a two-hour’s drive from Sacramento, this large lake is divided into a north and south region. No matter which part of the lake you choose to spend time at, you’ll find plenty of fun things to do during your visit. Paddle Boating on the lake and hiking along the nearby trails are popular activities during the summer. If you happen to visit during the winter, you can head to one of the local ski resorts for some world-class skiing and snowboarding. Hotels, inns and bed and breakfasts around the lake offer luxurious accommodations.

San Diego’s California Academy of Sciences is filled with exhibits that are designed to intrigue curious minds. A large aquarium includes a variety of sea creatures that interact to create a healthy ecosystem.
