3 Incredible Ways to Workout in Vegas

Hiking, Swimming, Running

Although Las Vegas is known for extravagance, you don’t have to let its endless buffets, gambling, and entertainment stop you from getting a quality workout. In fact, going on vacation can be a great way to get out of your normal exercise rut and explore new places and fitness goals. Whether you’re visiting for a week of fun and relaxation or are a native resident of Sin City, we have three easy and fun ways to fit in your workout.

1. Take a hike.

One of the best kept secrets of Las Vegas can be found just a few miles off the Strip. The city is surrounded by breathtaking mountains, perfect for fitness enthusiasts to enjoy nature while exercising. Red Rock Canyon is just west of the heart of downtown, giving its visitors access to 26 hiking and biking trails, ranging in levels for beginners and experts. Take a hike through the Calico Hills or meander with a friend to La Madre Springs. Either way, bring plenty of water! Between the warm Nevada climate and Red Rock’s sunny terrain, exercisers may find they require more hydration than normal.

Another unknown gem of Las Vegas is Mt. Charleston, a quick 20- to 30-minute drive from the Strip. Because of its weather conditions—cool in the summer and snowy in the winter—Mt. Charleston is a popular destination for both tourists and natives to the city. Featuring hiking trails for all skill levels, limestone climbing rocks, horseback riding, and skiing, the Spring Mountains provide the perfect way to escape from the city and workout.

Other popular hiking areas around the Las Vegas area include Lone Mountain, Tule Springs, and Lake Mead. No matter where you go, hiking is a great way to explore the natural beauty of Las Vegas.

2. Go for a swim.

Because the temperatures in Las Vegas often soars well above 100 degrees, swimming is one of the easiest ways to get full-body exercise and have fun. Pool builders in Las Vegas remain busy year-round as the popularity of both at-home pools and resort pools grows. Swimming at home or in your hotel’s pool is a great way to enjoy your workout without overheating. However, if you’re looking for a way to take your swim to the next level, Las Vegas offers some of the most incredible swimming experiences available.

The Golden Nugget is home to The Tank, a three-story swimming pool with a 30-foot water slide that winds through a 200,000-gallon shark aquarium. Visitors to the Golden Nugget pay only $25 to $40 to enjoy an unforgettable swim!

If you’ve ever felt like your exercise routine was missing a few sharks, the Mandalay Bay has you covered. Starting at $650, you can dive with sharks, getting up close and personal with “a higher concentration of exotic sharks than you’d ever find in the wild.” Each experience lasts three to four hours and includes equipment, orientation, a dive guide, and a guided tour of the aquarium.

3. Go on a run.

While there are many popular running trails in the Las Vegas area, some travelers prefer treadmill or street running. Most resorts and hotel stays include an exercise facility, equipped with treadmills and ellipticals for tourists who want to stay nearby. Runners who do their running near the Strip love the flat terrain, and recommend running early to avoid the crowds, running with a partner, and staying hydrated, especially if you’ve been consuming alcohol. If you love to race, Las Vegas hosts several iconic races throughout the year, including the Vegas Strong 5K, Rock ’N Roll Marathon Series, and the Red Rock Canyon 10-Mile Challenge.

No matter how you choose to workout in Vegas, the city offers multitudes of easy and fun ways to exercise and explore the city!
