In this article, I will make a list of things we need to do before we go on a mountain trip. These tips and tricks respect common sense, but it's a good thing to read them structured, from a single place. It is very important to pay attention to all the details when going for a hike.

Have a good breakfast:

One of the most important things when going on a mountain trip is breakfast. Being the most important meal of the day, we must eat healthy food, full of carbohydrates and protein. Also, it is good to have with you in your backpack fruits, nuts, chocolate, and other food that can boost your stamina with energy and sugar.

Share your itinerary with somebody, just in case something happens:

Another important thing is to announce to a close friend or a family member that you go on a mountain trail and to share your itinerary with him. It is better for a close person to know your mountain timetable and the approximate location, to be able to call for help if anything happens.

Check the weather forecast:

It is vital to check the weather forecast because you go on a trip. The mountain is full of surprises and it's mandatory to be prepared for everything, it's horrible to get caught by a summer storm while you are on the peak of the mountain. The easiest way to check the weather is to install a Weather App on your smartphone.

Be very careful when choosing your mountain boots:

One of the most important things is choosing your mountain boots with attention. If you use an inappropriate pair of boots on the trail, you may get blisters and different injuries, which creates a big discomfort and can make your trip harder. A good recommendation is to use a technical pair of boots (one that has a thicker and harder sole), ideal for trails on damaged and hard terrain. Also, use socks made from wool, because they keep your feet dry and prevent blisters.

Learn survival tricks:

It is very important to learn a bunch of useful survival tricks. You need to know how to handle different situations and you need a set of skills, like:

  • how to make a fire
  • what fruit you can eat from the forest
  • how to find water
  • how to navigate the mountain
  • how to react in front of wild animals

Improve your physical skills:

To be capable of getting over different obstacles, you need to improve your agility and balance. You may find ditches on the trail, or even fallen trees that you have to avoid. A good and easy to perform exercise is to jump on each foot 10 times or to jump for 30 seconds before the road or when we pause.

Pick the right equipment:

Pick layer-based equipment. For a better experience, you need to choose the appropriate pieces of clothes. The body clothing is important because it absorbs and dries at the same time the moisture and sweat. The second layer has to be a polar fleece that provides the warmth needed for the body, and the third should be softshell that is waterproof and protects you against the wind.

Be careful when choosing the backpack:

For a better experience, you need to choose the right backpack. If it is bigger or heavier than it should be, you will get exhausted very easily. Also, the backpack needs to be adjustable and to have a good ventilation system.

Take the proper equipment with you:

While you need to go on the trip with an optimistic mindset, a first aid kit should not be missing from your backpack. A few of the things you need to take with you:

  • sunscreen
  • bandages
  • antimicrobial ointment
  • wound cleaner
  • gauze rolls
  • elastic bandages

Go on the mountain with the right mental state:

Last but not least, you need to go on the mountain trail with the right mindset. If you go on a difficult and long trip, you need to be prepared to overtake yourself, relax, and benefit from nature.

This being said, if you have a list of things you do before a mountain trail, don't hesitate to leave a comment.
