THE ANGER IS THE AWAKENING
We Are Not Waiting for Them to Save Us

Everyone is pissed off right now.
We are watching rape, exploitation, misogyny, corruption, incompetence, institutional failure, political theatre, and systemic abuse play out before us. We watch victims beg for justice while institutions shuffle paperwork, pass responsibility, raise prices, cut services, and tell people to wait. We watch cruelty become entertainment and outrage become a commodity.
And we keep asking the same question:
How can they let this happen?
Who is going to stop them?
When are they finally going to change?
Maybe the answer is the part we do not want to hear.
We are the ones who have to change it.
The rage is not meaningless. Disgust is not weakness. The moment you look at something profoundly wrong and think, This cannot continue, something in you is awake.
The risen Christ is not a man coming down the stairs into the dumpster-fire basement of hell to rescue humanity from the world some of us have created for the rest of us. The risen Christ is the consciousness that refuses to remain bound inside an unjust world.
It is us.
Not because we are perfect. Not because we have every answer. Not because we are superior to everyone who came before us.
Because we are awake enough to refuse participation.
Look at history. Women have been raped, trafficked, enslaved, burned, silenced, medically neglected, economically controlled, denied education, denied professions, denied bodily autonomy, and punished for refusing male authority. Children have been abused. Women’s labour has been stolen and called duty. Their intuition was dismissed, their biology poorly understood, and their suffering routinely minimized.
Men have been abused, too, overwhelmingly by other males, and recruited into patriarchal, misogynistic, and violent belief systems. Women, too, can be recruited into perpetuating the very systems that hurt them. Abuse does not discriminate neatly between its victims and its future perpetrators.
People who have been hurt do not all respond the same way. Some go on to hurt others. Some turn their pain inward and spend years destroying themselves. Some become hard, bitter, cruel, or violent. Others spend their lives desperately trying not to become what hurt them, fighting against the current to contribute something meaningful to a world that keeps giving them reasons to give up.
For some, that means resisting the urge to lash out. For others, it means refusing to become the very thing that traumatized them. For those who have been sexually violated, the responsibility for that violation belongs to the perpetrator. Being hurt never makes someone else’s violation inevitable, excusable, or deserved.
And for those trying to build something beautiful out of what broke them, it can feel like being a fish swimming against a vicious current up a rocky stream, fighting for every inch of progress while the world pushes them back downstream.
The point is not to spend our lives screaming at the people who built these systems.
The point is to stop building our lives around them.
Predators feed on attention. Abusers feed on reaction. Institutions can consume years of our lives through endless explanations, complaints, appeals, forms, emails, phone calls, hearings, waiting rooms, and circular referrals.
We have to turn around.
Not because what happened did not matter.
Because our future matters more.
If the existing world demands that women become rigid, exhausted, economically dependent, sexually available, productive, and disconnected from their bodies in order to survive, then we need to imagine something else.
A society where sovereignty is normal.
Where women can build lives around creativity, nature, friendship, rest, music, art, caregiving, movement, spirituality, work chosen for meaning, and money designed to support life rather than consume it.
A society without compulsory dependence.
Without treating marriage and childbirth as the only respectable architecture for adulthood.
Without pretending that a person must surrender autonomy to become legitimate.
Without expecting someone to become someone else’s property and forfeit their rights and dignity simply because of their gender.
Without demanding that victims destroy themselves trying to convince institutions that their suffering is real.
And yes, there are good men. There are men who reject abuse, protect others, raise children with tenderness, and refuse the code of silence. They belong in the new world, too. This is not about declaring every man a predator. It is about refusing systems that normalize domination, entitlement, and silence.
Our anger is a fire alarm.
It tells us something is burning.
But standing beside the alarm forever, screaming at the fire, will not build the house we want.
We have to build.
Create businesses. Make art. Grow food. Share resources. Write books. Build communities. Protect children. Believe survivors. Teach consent. Develop independent income. Educate yourself. Make spaces where women can breathe. Create new forms of cooperation. Spend less attention on the spectacle and more attention on the alternative.
And support the women doing this work.
The women building something from nothing. The women raising children while fighting systems that were never designed to protect them. The women trying to survive, create, speak out, and turn pain into art, testimony, education, and something beautiful and worthwhile.
Do not assume these women have institutional protection, financial backing, or a safety net waiting beneath them.
Leave a tip. Leave a comment. Share their work. Buy their art. Contribute to their fundraisers. Support their independent platforms. Help finance the work of women who are fighting for their lives, challenging misogyny, raising awareness, and trying to make this world less brutal for the people who come after them.
Especially when they are doing it against the current of patriarchy in a country like Canada, where the promise of equality does not mean everyone has equal access to justice, safety, or resources.
Support the women who are trying to build the alternative, not just the ones who already have the money, the platform, and the institutional approval.
Stop feeding the circus with our nervous systems.
Stop staring at the clown show until we become part of it.
Turn off the screen.
Turn toward the mirror.
The person looking back at you is not powerless.
There is no perfect leader.
There is no magical institution that will suddenly become wise.
Predators do not magically stop being predators because we wish them into better people.
There is no adult arriving to fix everything.
We are the adults now.
We are the leaders.
And if we are angry enough to see what is broken, we are awake enough to begin building what comes next.
The fire is working.
Now use the rage, the damage, and the unveiling to forge something new.
