As international women's month comes to a close, I think it's important to acknowledge and remember all the strong women out there. One of the strongest that I have ever heard of was Ruth Bader-Ginsburg. , we lost Mrs. Bader-Ginsburg in September of last year but, all that she has accomplished should inspire young women to strive for the best.

It's always a shame when someone passes, but when someone so influential is I believe you have to wonder what else you could have learned from them before they left. If I could have had some sort of contact with her, it probably would have been in an email or a letter and sounded something like this….

Dear Mrs. Bader-Ginsburg,

I am writing to you as a way to figure out how you became so resilient of an individual. people go through hardships in their lives but, not them rise above their problems to make the best out of life. I believe that you have.

It's commendable that you have done so much for yourself in the academic field. You have your bachelors degree from Cornell University as well as a law degree from Columbia law school. I learned that your mother took a big role in your education even by taking you to the library since you were young. Is this where you developed your appreciation for education?

Even so, you went on to become a professor at Rutgers University and Columbia law and young women should see your achievements as something that is possible to achieve on their own.

Taking this a step further, you were elected to the Supreme Court as the second woman and first Jewish woman ever elected. From 1993 to 2006, you were the woman on the court. This must have been difficult in a male dominated industry. With this roadblock you still managed to advocate for women's rights and gender equality.

Your work on the Supreme Court has helped millions of women in the United states when abortion rights. Stating that “ the basic thing is that the government has no business making that choice for women” has helped others like myself understand a little better what women are going through with this issue.

Being a man, I do not know what it's like to have to deal with this situation. Hearing these words come from someone like yourself who is not a female but also highly educated helps me to understand the severity of this issue.

But your biggest test was probably dealing with your health. For almost 30 you have been fighting different cancers while still being able to stay on the Supreme Court. I had a close friend that I lost to cancer when I was 26 years old, and he was the same age. Seeing what these people have to go through I believe that you, being able to make it through cancers, are one of the strongest people I have ever heard of.

If you could say anything to encourage young women today to become stronger than they ever thought possible what will it be? You are the person that I believe should answer this kind of question because of the that you have been through.

Please continue to inspire not women but men around the world. The way to continue to move toward progress is to keep letting people know about the issues that are going on.

Sincerely,

Nick McKenna

It's important to do these kinds of exercises every once in a while, as a way to not remind yourself of what people fought for but also to remind others. you go through school you do not see a lot of women's histories being covered. This is something that I think needs to be changed.

My hope is that by keeping people educated on how powerful women have influenced or motivated others that people continue to talk about them. This in turn should create more powerful women and advocates for powerful women. As long as we continue to mention them they will never disappear and history will grow a bigger every day.
