Why Liv Morgan Deserves to be This Year's Ms. Money In The Bank

One of WWE's longest tenured non-Horsewomen could be on the verge of a massive push

Liv Morgan has been in WWE since 2014

The name Liv Morgan has gained a lot of steam in the last year, and that steam alone is long overdue. I have been among many saying that it's time Liv received something resembling an elevation, and from what we've seen since around the summer of 2021, it looks like we could finally see Liv get the push that she deserves and she's worked hard to receive. Hopefully, it leads to a big moment on July 2, 2022. Why that date? Because on that day, WWE's 13th annual Money In The Bank event takes place.

Let's take a look at Liv's history, shall we? She signed with WWE all the way back in 2014, which seems like an eternity. After three years in NXT, Liv was called up in 2017, and was part of the Riott Squad faction along with Ruby Riott and Sarah Logan. I remember Liv's main roster debut and I was honestly not really thrilled that she was a heel; in fact, looking back on it now, my stance on that has increased. However, the Riott Squad was definitely gaining a lot of attention from WWE fans.

But despite the attention, there was no elevation. Even when WWE instilled the Women's Tag Team Championship a year later, the Squad never held the titles, even though they had been a unit for two years! Even worse than that, 2019's Superstar Shake-up saw Liv moved to SmackDown, and leaving her Riott Squad cohorts on the Raw brand. We would see her confront Charlotte Flair and get a match with her, which Liv lost. We would not see her for months after that.

And then came the final Raw of 2019, where Liv made a surprise return by interrupting Bobby Lashley and Lana's wedding--by revealing her past relationship with Lana! So not only was Liv back, we were getting an epic LGBT angle in the process! WWE has hardly done LGBT angles in the past; few with men, and even less with women. I and other WWE fans were drinking in this angle with Lana and Liv, which even became part of the 2020 Women's Royal Rumble match! But just like a puck in the beginning of a hockey game, they suddenly dropped it. Why? It's been two years and I still don't know.

Liv spent several months feuding with an evil Ruby Riott, but they would be back together as faces that summer. The Riott Squad was together again, this time without Sarah Logan (who was released prior to this), but it was still without any elevation whatsoever. Even worse, Ruby was released in June of 2021, leaving Liv on her own once again.

Liv spent the latter half of 2021 feuding with Becky Lynch

When I wrote about last year's Money In The Bank, I was pulling for Liv to win the women's match, but that honor ended up going to Nikki A.S.H., which I was pleased with. Even so, it did appear that Liv would finally get something, and she would spent the last months of the year feuding with then-Raw Women's Champion Becky Lynch. Now I figured she wasn't going to beat Becky so quickly, but when Day 1 came on New Year's Day 2022, I thought, "This is Liv's night." It wasn't. Becky retained, cleanly, and I found myself disappointed, and yes, a bit angry.

Even so, from what we've seen now, Liv's stock has not decreased. She has picked more steam with her then-partnership with Rhea Ripley, and even more after Rhea turned heel on Liv and went on to be part of the sinister Judgment Day faction, which (until recently) was led by WWE Hall of Famer Edge. Though Liv was on the losing end against Judgment Day, Money In The Bank is coming up. While last year's event wasn't the time for Liv to grab the briefcase, this year's event is. Liv's been in WWE for eight years, and for a non-Horsewoman, that's a long time. Liv is every bit as good and marketable as any Horsewoman, Ronda Rousey, Bianca Belair, and Asuka, and it's about time that she gets her long-overdue elevation. I was fine with Liv not winning the briefcase last year. This year, I will not accept anything less than Liv being Ms. Money In The Bank.
