Last season the Somers boys soccer team qualified for the sectionals. Unfortunately, the Tuskers made a quick round one exit, but more than the unpleasant memory has lingered.

Losing only five seniors, said Coach Robert Carreira, “We have a strong core of returning guys, and we are supporting that with quite a few underclassmen. So I am really excited.”

In goal, the team has depth and experience. “I’ll have two goalies to choose from. They both with their own advantages,” he said of Benn Baran and Nick Chao.

A definite leg up from last year, the coach assures. “If Benn was sick, we had no backup so not having that headache will be fantastic,” said Carreira.

Connor Sheldon alleviates on defense too. Captain last year, said the coach, “An amazing young man, he’s got a great head on his shoulders, is a natural leader, and there is just a presence about him.”

By his side, Eddie Ruiz will be a great complement. “He’s a very technical player,” Carreira asserted.

Up the field, Kenji Todo came into camp with a very strong off season. “He’s in fantastic shape, and he’s really great at midfield,” said Carreira.

On the wing, Harper Ritson is returning for another season. “Hard working, he’s a really intelligent player and definitely a creative spark,” the coach said of the tri-captian.

The middies then transition to their third captain. Trevor Kermit, his work ethic and presence has inspired the team moto. “Don’t lose that grit,” Carreira conveyed.

From below, Kaon Demaj is rising from Junior Varsity. “I think this year is going to be a break out season in the way he’s been playing and understanding the game,” he said.

There will also be three freshmen who will be getting an early call up. “It really speaks to the town history and commitment to the game of soccer,” Carreira explained.

Among the graduating absences is James Brinn. “He was the glue of the team and built morale,” said Carreira.

But it turns out, the 2026 grad is not really gone from anyone's memory. “It’s really trickled down to the seniors,” he said. “They are so very committed.”

All together, the competitive league doesn’t have him running from a good fight. “I don’t see why we won’t be in the mix,” the coach concluded.
