Power Rankings

Week 8

By Niko BanksPublished 8 months ago 4 min read

10. Cowboys (5-2)

The Cowboys are coming off two great victories, and it looks like they are going in the right direction. The big test now is whether Dallas can take this level of play to the elite teams. But despite their resurgence, they still have a really bad loss to the 49ers, so they remain under them.

9. 49ers (5-3)

The 49ers have been sliding, and many people are taking out their pitchforks for Purdy and Wilks. However, I don’t believe it’s their fault. Purdy lost his star players against a great Browns defense that typically has the 49ers number. Still, he led his team to a position where they should have won, but the kicker missed two important kicks, including the game winner. Next week, Purdy threw his back-breaking interceptions after a concussion. His first game back from concussion was on him. However, that’s one really bad game in his career.

Also, Steve Wilks is suddenly the name on everyone’s tongue, but I didn’t hear anyone praising or complaining about him when he was 5-0. The real problem is the defense. They have to execute better. They have to win their one-on-ones and force more turnovers. They are too talented to perform how they have in this three-game losing streak. The 49ers just added even more help with Chase Young, so there are no more excuses for this defense.

8. Browns (4-3)

The Browns beat the 49ers, earning the right to be ranked ahead of them. The Browns remain impressive. They have found ways to win. Even with all their injuries, it seems like if Deshaun Watson can get right medically and on the field, they are Super Bowl contenders.

7. Seahawks (5-2)

The Seahawks have just been solid all year. They have beefed up both sides of the ball, and they remain competitive with everyone. Geno is proving last year wasn’t a fluke, and the Seahawks are looking like a playoff team. The Seahawks don’t just look like a playoff team that would be lucky to be there but one that belongs.

6. Chiefs (6-2)

It was all good just a week ago. The Chiefs were on top of the NFL, and then they got smacked by the Broncos of all teams. Plus, the Chiefs looked very bad. As of now, they have one bad loss and one competitive one. Plus, we all know what they are capable of, but if they continue to play like that, they could slide off the power rankings.

5. Lions (6-2)

The Lions played well against the Raiders and successfully had their bounce-back game. In fact, the Raiders benched their QB and fired the coaching staff & GM after losing to the Lions. However, the Lions are five because the 4th ranked team is their worst loss.

4. Ravens (6-2)

The Ravens are still in the top 5 because they have an excellent record, and they have clearly caught their stride offensively. The Ravens look like they will finally become a playoff team again and remind people that they are one of the best teams in the league with a top two QB.

3. Jaguars (6-2)

The Jaguars are beginning to look like they could be challenging for the best team in the league. They are very well-rounded. The Jaguars won a playoff game last year, and it looks like they have gotten even better. Watch out for the Jaguars.

2. Dolphins (6-2)

Dolphins continue to win and look impressive. They still have to prove they can do it against the best of the best. The Dolphins are number two because of their strength of schedule. The Dolphins have some big wins, and their losses have all come to worthy opponents. However, they still need to prove they can win the biggest games.

1. Eagles (7-1)

The Eagles have finally made it to the number-one spot. They have been consistently top 5, but there's always been a team with more substantial wins and the same record as them. But now the entire league has fallen behind the Eagles. Only the Eagles have seven wins up to this point. Now that said, their victories haven’t been pretty, and they are still competing with teams they should trounce. Both Commander's games came down to one possession, and it is because of the Philly defense. The Philly defense is nowhere near the unit it was last year. How long will it be till it bites them in the butt? Also, every team that has reached the top of the power rankings has quickly been smacked back down to reality. Will the Eagles be the same?

The 49ers have been sliding, and many people are taking out their pitchforks for Purdy and Wilks. However, I don’t believe it’s their fault. Purdy lost his star players against a great browns defense that typically has the 49ers number. Next week, purdy threw his back, breaking interceptions after a concussion. His first game back from concussion was on him. However, that’s one really bad game in his career.

Also, Steve Wilks is suddenly the name on everyone’s tongue, but I didn’t hear anyone. Praising or complaining about him when he was 5-0. The real problem is the defense. They have to execute better. They have to win their one-on-ones and force more turnovers. They are too talented to perform how they have in this three-game losing streak. The 49ers just added even more help with Chase Young, so there are no more excuses for this defense.
